Anderson leads Eagle

boys past Crusaders

NEW ULM -- New Ulm junior Jeremy Anderson sliced through the wind to record a medalist round of 39 Thursday, leading the Eagles' boys golf team to a 167-188 nonconference win over Mankato Loyola at New Ulm Country Club.

"Jeremy shot a real nice round today," New Ulm coach Randy Ogren said. "In these conditions I thought a (round of) 43 or 44 would be right there, but a 39 was really good to see. It's right where (Anderson) should be.

"We also had a good following out there," he added. "There were probably 25 or more people out there (at N.U.C.C.) watching, which was great considering the weather."

Teammate Matt Wieland, a sophomore, also impressed Ogren with his round of 41. Rounding out the scoring for New Ulm was senior David Sellner with a 43, and junior Paul Holm with a round of 44.

Lee Miller's round of 43 led the Crusaders. Teammate Mike Cashman shot 47, and both Dan Oberle and Tyler Westmann ended with 49s.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season and remain 0-1 in the South Central Conference. New Ulm will host SCC foe Blue Earth Area Monday at 1 p.m.
