ST. JAMES -- The New Ulm Brewers needed only seven innings as they defeated St. James 13-1 Sunday afternoon in Tomahawk East League play.

The game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Righthander Tony Burt allowed only one hit, which came in the seventh inning. New Ulm improved its record to 2-0 in league action.

Burt fanned 12 and walked only two.

Scott Schaefer and Scott O'Brien each had three hits. Chris Peters and Corey Schaefer each collected two hits.

Shane Kraus was one for two, and Troy Kamm added a double.

The Brewers will be at Essig next Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.

STARK 14,

REDWOOD FALLS 6

The Stark Longhorns used the three-hit pitching of Scott Mathiowetz to clip the Redbirds 14-6 in Tomahawk East League action on Sunday.

Mathiowetz went five innings to pick up the win. He struck out three.

Bob Schmid and Cory Haala each had two hits for Stark (1-0). Schmid drove in four runs and Haala drive in three.

Lloyd Helget went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

John Jenniges took the mound loss for Redwood Falls (0-1). Jenniges led the Redbird offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run.

ESSIG 10, SPRINGFIELD 0

The Essig Bluejays used a three-run double by Kevin Hulke to invoke the 10-run rule for the win.

Paul Nelson was credited with the win for Essig (1-0). He went five innings and did not allow a hit. He struck out four and walked three.

Aaron Nelson was tagged with the loss for the Tigers (0-1), He gave up five runs in five innings and seven hits.

Doug Radloff and Terry Helget each had three hits for Essig. Radloff hit a triple, and Helget a double. Helget also drove in two runs.
