BrewersedgeStark 2-0BY JIM BASTIAN Journal Sports Writer NEW ULM -- Jason Rewitzer's lead-off single in the last of the eighth inning jump-started a New Ulm offense that had been held to three hits by Stark right-hander Cole Deibele as the Brewers ran their Tomahawk East League record to 4-0 by edging Stark 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Mueller Par. New Ulm's Tony Burt ran his season record to 2-0, striking out 12 and allowing five hits to the Longhorns. Deibele, who fanned three Brewer hitters, took the loss, permitting five hits. Tony Burt had two of the New Ulm hits. One was a double -- the only extra base hit of game by either team. Stark made mild threats against Burt in the first five innings, leaving a runner on base in each inning including stranding runners on first and second in the second inning before Burt ended the threat with a strikeout. Meanwhile, Brewer bats were quiet against Deibele. The Brewers did not muster a hit through four innings. But in the fifth inning, the Brewers had their first serious scoring threat. Burt broke up Deibele's no-hitter by leading off the bottom of the fifth with a double to center. He took third on a Corey Schaefer sacrifice bunt. Burt was tagged out at third when John Enter grounded to Longhorn shortstop Bob Schmid, who then faked a throw to first and tossed to third baseman Brian Mathiowetz who tagged out Burt. The Brewers would raise mild threats in both the sixth and seventh innings before finally getting to Deibele in the eighth. Jason Rewitzer led off with a base hit to center. Troy Kamm followed with a sacrifice bunt towards third that was fielded by Brian Mathiowetz. But his throw to first baseman Craig Schmitz got by him, putting Brewers on second and third with no outs. After Deibele fanned Brad Weber on a called third strike, Scott O'Brien hit a single to center that scored Rewitzer and a sliding Kamm for a 2-0 lead. Burt, who had at one point retired 13 straight Stark hitters before Craig Schmitz singled with one out in the ninth, got Brad Mathiowetz on a pop-out and whiffed pinch-hitter Scott Fischer to end the game.
