Granite Fallsdefeats KaiserhoffBY JIM BASTIAN Journal Sports Writer
NEW ULM - Granite Falls' righthander Kurt Kvam struck out 16, and Ryan Hebrick drove in two runs as the Kilowatts downed the New Ulm Kaiserhoff 6-1 Sunday afternoon in Western Minny League play. Kvam allowed six hits as the Kaiserhoff out-hit Granite Falls 6-4. Andy Stolt took the loss for New Ulm (0-1; 1-1). He went seven innings and struck out five in a strong effort. He was charged with four runs on three hits. Ryan Hebrich had two hits for the Kilowatts including a solo home run and an RBI single. Tim Knapper added a double. Brady Ranweiler doubled for the Kaiserhoff. The K's play Sunday at Marshall in a 8 p.m. Western Minny League game. Both Stolt and Kvam held opponents' bats quiet through three innings. Kvam allowed a first inning double to Brady Ranweiler and an infield single to Landon Rathmann but worked out of the jam. Stolt carried a no-hitter through three innings before he allowed the first hit. And that was a big one as Ryan Herbrick connected on an 0-1 Stolt pitch, sending it over the fence in left field. Granite Falls scored three more runs in the fourth as Stolt plunked Nick Richter and Mike Beier before Nate Dammann singled home a run. Ryan Hebrick's second hit of the game plated Beier with one of five Kaiserhoff errors in the game allowing the third run of the inning to score. New Ulm got to Kvam in the bottom of the seventh for a run. Lance Buck drew a pinch-hit walk and Preston Cowing singled. Two fielder's choices allowed Buck to score. Granite Falls added two insurance runs in the eighth off reliever Chris Cariveua. An error coupled with a Tim Knapper double made it a 5-1 game A wild pitch and a Craig Listal sacrifice fly scored the sixth run. Chris Cariveau picked up the win for the Kaiserhoff in relief with Doug Monson taking the mound loss for the Saints. Landon Rathmann had two hits with Brady Ranweiler blasting a home run.
