Eagles' boys tie for 11th at Section 2AAHUTCHINSON -- "We did not end the season the way we wanted to." Those were the words of New Ulm boys golf coach Randy Ogren after his Eagles squad finished tied for 11th at the Section 2AA Meet in Hutchinson with a total of 334 strokes. "We need to learn how to take that next step," Ogren continued. "To shoot good scores on courses other than our own (New Ulm Country Club)." Host Hutchinson won the meet with a team score of 305 strokes, with Mankato East (308) taking second and Fairmont (309) finishing third. Other teams, in order, were Dassel-Cokato (312), Marshall (324), Mankato West (325), Monticello (325), Buffalo (327), Litchfield (331), Waseca (331), New Ulm, Shakopee (325), Prior Lake (335), Willmar (335), Worthington (338), and St. Michael/Albertville (340). Senior David Sellner led the Eagles on the day, finishing with a round of 81. Other scorers for New Ulm were sophomore Matt Wieland with an 83, and sophomore Tyler Hirth and junior Jeremy Anderson, both with 85s. Junior Paul Holm finished with a round of 87, and freshman Ryan Herzog ended with a 92. "We had a good year record-wise," said Ogren, whose team ended 9-2 overall, 4-2 in South Central Conference. "Five of the six tourney team members will be back next year, so we're looking for better things in 2001."
