RRC sweeps pairto advance in 3-2APIPESTONE -- Red Rock Central won a pair of games Wednesday in the Section 3-2A softball tournament, edging Benson-Hancock 5-4 and then topping Pipestone-Jasper 3-1. Lacie Altermatt (19-1) got complete-game wins in both games. Altermatt yielded three earned runs on six hits against Benson-Hancock and allowed three hits without an earned run against Pipestone-Jasper. RRC (19-1) rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to take the lead. After Benson-Hancock tied the game at 4-all, RRC scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh when Julie Nickel came in on a wild pitch. Erin Weber went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for RRC. Altermatt went 2-for-3 and Megan Neperman was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored for the Falcons. Against the Arrows, Mandey Gillis led RRC offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nickel and Sarah Altermatt each went 1-for-3. Nickel recorded a double and a run scored and Sarah Altermatt scored a run. RRC will meet an opponent to be determined at 4 p.m. Friday in Montevideo. St. Mary's wins two MONTEVIDEO -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's swept a pair of games Wednesday, blanking Chokio-Alberta 3-0 and edging Wabasso 3-2 in the Section 3-1A softball tournament. Jocelyn Helget recorded complete-game wins in both contests. Helget (12-4) tossed a four-hitter in the first game against C/A, striking out nine, and allowed two runs on eight hits against Wabasso. St. Mary's scored a run in the first against C/A and added another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Nicole Schumacher went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Knights. Nicole Steffl, Kristy Schumacher and Kelly Trebesch each went 1-for-3 for St. Mary's. Against Wabasso, Mel Braulick went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead St. Mary's. Nicole Schumacher went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Tiffany Froehlich went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Rabbits. Annie Moore went 1-for-3 with a run scored for and Alyssa Ricketts was 2-for-3. St. Mary's will meet an opponent to be determined at 4 p.m. Friday in Montevideo. If necessary, a second game will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
