Eagles get byHutch, BuffaloST. MICHAEL -- The New Ulm High Eagles continued their long road back to the winners bracket of the Section 2-3A baseball tournament with a pair of wins Saturday. New Ulm High edged Hutchinson 8-7 in the first game and decisioned Buffalo 10-5 in the second game. The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Hutchinson. Jamie Hoffmann's pop fly for what would have been the third out was dropped by the Tigers' first baseman, allowing Blake Thorson and Isaac Forstner to score the tying and winning runs. New Ulm High led 6-2 before Hutchinson scored five runs in the top of the seventh. Chris Cariveau and reliever Tyson Anderson combined to give up five singles in the inning before Bob Wellmann entered. Wellmann got the wins in both games. In the first game, Wellman worked one inning, allowing one hit and walking one. In the second game, he went seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits, striking out six without issuing a walk; he hit one batter. "I have to credit the pitching staff," New Ulm High coach Jim Senske said. "Chris Cariveau did a nice job in the first game until he tired. Wellmann looked real strong in the last game." Brandon Rolloff went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning to lead the Eagles offensively. Rolloff had three RBI for the game. Dusty Fleck went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, and Hoffmann was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. In the second game, the Eagles scored a run in the first and then posted five runs in the second inning. Keith McClellan's three-run home run keyed the surge. McClellan's homer scored Dan Kitzberger and Eric Austvold ahead of him. New Ulm High finished with 12 hits from 10 players against Buffalo. Austvold was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Eagles. Wellmann worked the first six innings and Dusty Farasyn started the seventh for the Eagles.
