Brewers down Leavenworth

NEW ULM -- Brewer right-hander Ryan Walters spun a seven-inning three- hitter, and New Ulm bats slammed out 10 hits to lead the Brewers to a 10-0 shelling of Leavenworth Sunday night in Tomahawk East League play.

The game was called after seven innings because of the 10-run lead rule.

Walters struck out five and walked one as New Ulm improved to 8-1 on the season.

Dan Schwartz took the loss for the Orioles (4-7) giving up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings of work, and walking eight.

Brad Weber followed his 6-for-6 performance Friday by belting two hits and driving in three runs. Scott O'Brien and Chris Peters doubled for the Brewers, which will host Lake Crystal Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Brewers scored five runs in the second inning off left-handed Schwartz. Corey Schaefer walked with one out and took second on an Evan Jacobs' groundout. He scored on Scott O'Brien's double. Troy Kamm walked. O'Brien and Kamm scored on Weber's single to right and two base error on Leavenworth right-fielder Tony Pelzel. Scott Schaefer's single plated Weber for a 4-0 lead Three straight walks brought in the fifth run of the inning.

New Ulm tacked on three more runs in the third,one coming on Weber's two-out single. Scott Schaefer walked before Chris Peters doubled home Weber and Schaefer.

New Ulm ended the game in the seventh inning off Oriole reliever Gabe Hirsch.

Corey Schaefer, Dave Kunz and Jeremy Wieland each singled for a 9-0 lead. Weber's sacrifice fly to deep center brought in the tenth run of the game.

New Ulm plays Lake Crystal on Tuesday and hosts Essig in a Tomahawk East League game Wednesday at 8 p.m.
