Hoffmannnamed 3A Player of the year by coach Assoc.NEW ULM -- New Ulm High School's Jamie Hoffmann was named the Minnesota Coach's Association Class 3A Player of the Year at the Lion's Club Banquet Thursday night in Chaska. For the year, Hoffmann hit .564 including a state tournament record 10-for-11 as the Eagles rolled to their first state Class 3A Baseball title. For the year, Hoffmann was 53-for-94, scored 43 runs and drove in 32 runs. He had 11 doubles, four triples and five home runs. "He is excited about the award," said Jamie's father, Rich. Hoffmann has also been the focus of a lot of college recruits in the last week. "He has been offered a (full ride) from Bradley University for baseball," said Rich Hoffmann "They even told him that if he wants to try junior hockey (Hoffman was drafted by Des Moines of the United States Hockey League) for a year, they would still take him after that year." The University of Minnesota baseball program has also been talking to Hoffmann. "Rob Fornasiere (Gopher's assistant coach) talked to Jamie tonight and he wants to talk to us more over the weekend," said Hoffmann. Jamie is playing in the Lions All-Star games this weekend for the Southern All-Stars. Their first game is today at 5 p..m. in Chaska. Also, the University of Minnesota hockey program is recruiting Hoffmann. "They want us to come down for a visit - they talked to us in Des Moines (Thursday morning),"said Rich. "They said that that they really like Jamie." BREWERS DOMINATING TEAM :The New Ulm Brewers are resting at 12-0 in the Tomahawk East League thus far and have been as dominating a team as anyone. In their 12 games, they have outscored opponents 62-9. They are led in hitting by Todd Hoffmann who is hitting .429. Tony Burt is at .424. Hoffmann and Chris Peters both have two home runs. In the pitching category, they are led by righthander Tony Burt who is 5-0 with an ERA of 0.78. In 37 innings, Burt has fanned 43 enemy hitters and permitted only 10 hits and has not allowed an earned run. Ryan Walters is 4-0 with an ERA of 0.95. He leads the team in innings pitched with 42 and has struck out a team-leading 66 hitters Jeremy Wieland has posted a 2-0 mark and has 26 strikeouts in 21 innings. Chris Peters has the other pitching win and is the only pitcher with an ERA of over 1.00 at 2.10. KAISERHOFF HITTING. 319: Following wins over St. Peter of 11-6 and a 22-7 Southern Minny romp over Faribault Sunday, the Kaiserhoff is hitting .319 as a team. Brady Ranweiler leads the team with a .460 average with Cory Ranweiler second at .427. Brady Ranweiler is also the RBI leader on the team with 16. Catcher Ryan Ortiz is second with 11 for the 7-3 Kaiserhoff. Brandon Rolloff, a member of the 2002 Eagle Class 3A baseball champions, blasted a grand slam homerun in the rout of Faribault Sunday. Rolloff was inadvertently missed as a college football player from New Ulm High School. Rolloff will play next year at Augustana in Sioux Falls.
