NEW ULM -- In the Highway 14 version of Interleague play, New Ulm Kaiserhoff of the Southern Minny League scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to top Essig of the Tomahawk East League 9-4 Monday night.

Cory Ranweiler picked up the win for Kaiserhoff (10-4). He went the distance and fanned seven while allowing six hits.

Mitch Lewis, who relieved starter Jason Schmitz in the fifth inning, took the loss for the Jays, giving up seven runs in two innings of work.

Joey Schugel, Ryan Ortiz and Brian Davison each had two hits for Kaiserhoff, who will host Austin at 7:30 p.m. today Southern Minny League contest.

Schugel also drove in three runs.

Terry Helget and Travis Walden each had two hits with Walden belting a second-inning, two-run home run.

The Bluejays, playing their third game in two days after a doubleheader with Winthrop Sunday, got to Ranweiler early.

Ryan Weier walked and took second on a Jason Schmitz sacrifice bunt .He scored on Helget's double down the left-field line for a 1-0 Essig lead.

The Jays, who will play at Leavenworth 8 p.m. Wednesday night in a Tomahawk East League matchup, increased that lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

After Ranweiler recorded the final out of the first inning on a strike out, he fanned both Mitch Stueber and Dan Erdman for the first two outs of the second inning. Lee Haala stroked a two-out single and one pitch later Travis Walden golfed a Ranweiler offering over the fence in right field for that three-run lead.

Kaiserhoff took a bite out of that lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Schmitz walked Preston Cowing and plunked Schugel to start the inning. Ortiz's popout to right allowed Cowing to tag and take third base. He would score on Brian Davison's sacrifice fly to left field.

Schugel then stole second and scored on Andy Stolt's base hit to center.

Travis Walden's walk and steal of second in the fifth resulted in a run when Helget singled to center with two out.

But Kaiserhoff tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning off reliever Lewis.

Lewis walked Lance Buck and a Cory Ranweiler double scored him. Walks to Brady Ranweiler and Cowing loaded the bases with none out. Schugel's infield single tied the game but Kaiserhoff could not get to Lewis for any more as he retired the next three hitters.

However, they did get to Lewis in the sixth for five runs.

Aaron Dolan doubled and went to third on a Buck fly out. Cory Ranweler followed with a hard grounder to third that was fielded by Ryan Weier, who caught Dolan in no-man's land off third and tagged him out. But Brady Ranweiler's double plated Cory Ranweiler from first. Cowing drew a walk prior to Schugel doubling to right to score both Brady Ranweiler and Cowing.

An Ortiz single over shortstop scored Schugel for an 8-4 lead. A wild pitch, a Davison single and another wild pitch scored the ninth Kaiserhoff run of the game.
