KaiserhoffroutsBrowntonBY JIM BASTIAN Journal Sports Writer NEW ULM -- When you face a pitcher who throws a knuckleball, one of two things will happen. The pitch will either be as hard to hit as a butterfly with a hammer, or it will be a batter's delight. Sunday night, the Kaiserhoff hitters enjoyed a lot of delights. New Ulm banged out 11 hits and 11 runs in four innings off Brownton's knuckleballer Doug Karg and hammered the Bruins 11-1 in Ara Wilson League play. Cory Ranweiler was the winning pitcher for the Kaiserhoff, going six innings. He struck out three and allowed five hits and no runs John Spaeth pitched the seventh inning for New Ulm and allowed one run on one hit while fanning two. Ryan Ellwein and Brady Ranweiler each had three hits for the Kaiserhoff. Landon Rathmann collected two hits and drove in four runs. Scott Wagner had two of the Bruins' six hits. New Ulm wasted little time in jumping on Karg as Ryan Ellwein lead off the bottom of the first with a triple. Brad Keenan walked before Terry Steinbach popped out. Brady Ranweiler's RBI single made it 1-0 before Tom Steinbach's bloop single loaded them. Landon Rathmann's single and a Josh Hinson sacrifice fly made it 3-0. Tom Steinbach and Rathmann came home on Cory Ranweiler's two-out double to left field. The green and gold, which sent nine men to the plate in the first inning, added two more runs in the second. Ellwein singled and Terry Steinbach singled with one out. Brady Ranweiler's second hit of the game scored Ellwein for a 6-0 lead. A wild pitch by Karg moved runners to second and third. Tom Steinbach's sacrifice fly scored pinchrunner Chris Rupert to up the lead to 7-0. Josh Hinso's lead-off double in the third, a fly-out and a Travis Fleck sacrifice fly made it 8-0. New Ulm then scored its final three runs of the game in the fourth. Brad Keenan doubled, and Tom Steinbach drew a one-out walk. Landon Rathmann then drove a 1-1 Karg pitch over the fence in left field for an 11-0 lead. The Bruins managed to get on the scoreboard in the seventh when Scott Wagner singled and Nick Heller drew a walk from Spaeth. Jerry Sauber was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs, but got only one run out of it. That run came on Matt Hranicka's groundout to first. The Kaiserhoff will host Marshall at 8 p.m. Wednesday. It will be "New Ulm Country Club Night." Each inning, a drawing will be held for a round of golf at the country club with a special grand prize drawn in the middle of the eighth inning. ... Former professional baseball pitcher Barry Wohler will start for Marshall. ... Terry Steinbach along with Ted Marti and the August Schell Brewing Company will film a commercial on Tuesday afternoon at Johnson Park.
