Brewers down Sleepy Eye, 7-2; Essig hangs on for 14-13 winBY JIM BASTIAN Journal Sports Writer NEW ULM - The New Ulm Brewer offense banged out 14 hits and righthander Chris Peters scattered five hits while striking out seven in a 7-2 win over Sleepy Eye Sunday night in Tomahawk East League baseball. Brad Weber and Dan O'Brien each had three hits for New Ulm (18-2). Al Wurtzberger and Troy Kamm each added two hits. O'Brien and Scott Schaefer drove in two runs. New Ulm will host Searles Tuesday at 8 p.m. Dean Brinkman took the loss for the Indians (11-8) going six innings and being charged with six runs. Kyle Krzmarzick had two hits for Sleepy Eye. Both teams plated a run in the first with the Indians scoring on a Kyle Krzmarzick infield hit and an RBI double by Kelly Krzmarzick. The Brewers, who scored two runs in the eighth and five runs in the ninth to beat the Schell's Blue Sox 8-7 Friday, tied the game on singles by Troy Kamm and Brad Weber and an error. New Ulm pushed two runs across in the third after two were out. Chris Peters and Dan Krzmarzick singled and both scored on Scott Schaefer's double. Al Wurtzberger's lead-off single in the fourth sparked a three-run inning. Jeff Lindeman walked and Troy Kamm beat out a bunt single. The ensuing error by Indian first baseman Kelly Krzmarzick on a throw to third allowed Wurtzberger to score. Dan O'Brien's single to left brought in Lindeman and Kamm for a 6-1 lead. The Indians took advantage of two Brewer errors in the fifth to score their final run of the game. The Brewers tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Aaron Nesvold reached on an error and went to third on a Weber single. Nesvold then scored on an attempted double steal. Dave Darr was tagged with the pitching loss for Redwood Falls (8-11) also in relief. Every hitter who started the game for both teams had at least one hit with Ryan Weier banging out three hits for Essig. Mitch Lewis, Terry Helget, Larry Haala and Scott Suprenant. all had two hits with Lewis driving in three runs and he also tripled. Larry Haala and Scott Suprenant banged back-to-back home runs.
