Kaiserhoff

NEW ULM -- The Marshall A's defeated the New Ulm Kaiserhoff 3-1 Sunday night in amateur baseball action at Mueller Park.

The A's scored all three runs off Cory Ranweiler in the first inning. Adam Labat led off with a walk and took second on Ben Weiner's single. Mike Anderson had an RBI comebacker to to the mound and Landon Erickson doubled home Weiner to make it 2-0.

Erickson later scored to make it 3-0.

Aaron Dolan scored the only run for the Kaiserhoff in the bottom of the first after he walked and scored on Brady Ranweiler's double.

Marshall got a scare in the bottom of the seventh inning after Erickson was hit in the face by a pickoff attempt from Peterson. Erickson was taken off the field by ambulance. There was no official word of his injury at press time.

Cory Ranweiler struck out five for the Kaiserhoff. John Peterson got the win for the A's. He allowed six hits and went the distance. Peterson struck out 14. New Ulm stranded nine runners on base.

Bob Wellmann pitched in relief for the Kaiserhoff. Jon Ahern had a double for New Ulm and Brady Ranweiler went 2-for-3.

Weiner went 2-for-4 for Marshall.

The loss means Marshall gets the top seed with a 3-1 record. New Ulm (0-4) opens the Best-of-3 playoffs with Waseca Wednesday, July 30 at Waseca. Marshall hosts Litchfield.
