Post 800 tops Hutch Blue

SLEEPY EYE -- Randy Braun singled in Cody Walter with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Sleepy Eye a 9-8 win over Hutchinson Blue Friday afternoon at Sleeph Eye Baseball Park in the first round of the VFW Northwest Subdistrict, District 2 tournament.

Braun finished 4-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored in addition to the game-winning RBI.

Four other Sleepy Eye hitters each recorded a pair of hits in the team's 13-hit performance.

Bryce Belseth went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three RBI to lead Sleepy Eye. Braun was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI and Dusty Mangen was 2-for-4.

Jake Deibele went 2-for-3 with a double.

Darrin Haala went the distance to get the win for Sleepy Eye (19-6). Haala allowed eight runs on 12 hits, striking out six and walking five.

Tom King was charged with the loss for 2-3 of an inning of work, giving up one run on two hits.

Sleepy Eye will meet Hutchinson Red at 2 p.m. today at Sleepy Eye Baseball Park.

New Ulm VFW Gold 9, New Ulm VFW Blue 6

New Ulm VFW Gold stayed alive in the Northwest Subdistrict, District 2 tournament at Sleepy Eye Baseball Park Friday evening with a 9-6 win over New Ulm VFW Blue.

Tyson Anderson got the mound win in relief of starter Mark Rolloff. Anderson threw the final two innings without yielding a hit as he struck out one and walked two.

Gary Wurtzberger threw all six innings in the loss for Blue.

Corey Schnobrich was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Gold offensively, with teammate Keith McClellan going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Julian Luetmer was 2-for-4 with a double to lead Blue at the plate. Adam Hoscheit went 2-for-5.

Gold now moves on to face Hutchinson Blue, a team they lost to 10-0 in the opening round. Game time is 4:30 p.m. today at Sleepy Eye Ballpark.

Hutchinson Blue 10, New Ulm VFW Gold 0 (5 inn.)

Hutchinson Blue exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and blanked New Ulm Gold 10-0 in five innings in the first round of the VFW Northwest Subdistrict, District 2 tournament at Sleepy Eye Baseball Park Friday afternoon.

Matt Nachreiner took the loss for New Ulm (18-13). Nachreiner went 4 1-3 innings and allowed seven runs on five hits.

Dusty Farasyn faced five batters in the fifth before the game was ended on the 10-run rule. Farasyn yielded three runs -- one earned -- on three hits without recording an out.

Mark Rolloff went 1-for-2 with a double to lead New Ulm at the plate. Kyle Harris, Nachreiner and Mitch Palmer each recorded one hit.

Hutchinson Red 5,

New Ulm VFW Blue 4

VFW Blue opened play Friday with a tough 5-4 loss to Hutchinson Red.

Andy Kamm shouldered the mound loss for New Ulm. Teammate Jacob Berg was 3-for-3 with a double to lead the sticks.
