Kaiserhoff shuts out FaribaultBy JIM BASTIAN Journal Sports Writer NEW ULM -- After dropping six straight games, the New Ulm Kaiserhoff has now run off three straight wins. Cory Ranweiler pitched seven innings of shutout ball and New Ulm bats plated three first inning runs as Kaiserhoff bats plated three first inning runs enroute to an 8-0 win over Faribault Wednesday night in Southern Minny League play. Ranweiler struck out seven in his seven innings of work and held the Lakers in check as Faribault had only one serious scoring threat. Steve Christiansen took the loss for Faribault allowing eight runs in seven innings of work. Lance Buck and Brady Ranweiler each had two hits for New Ulm who will play at Austin Friday night in a Southern Minny League game and then close out their regular season at home Sunday against Hutchinson at Mueller Park. Both of Ranweiler's hits were doubles with Preston Cowing also adding a double for New Ulm. Brandon Rolloff added a triple. Russ Bauer had two of the Lakers' nine hits. And while both teams each had nine hits, it was the Kaiserhoff who took advantage of their hits. In the top of the first, the Lakers recorded three straight, two out singles to load the bases but failed to score when Ranweiler set down Russ Bauer on a called third strike. New Ulm, on the other hand, made their hits pay off. Lance Buck opened with a one-out infield single and stole second. He scored on Cory Ranweiler's groundball base hit to center. Brady Ranweiler moved him to third with a double to left before a passed ball permitted Cory Ranweiler to score. Brady Ranweiler came home on Preston Cowing's two bagger to center. Ranweiler would allow a Laker runner to reach secondbase in both the second and the fourth without letting them score before the Kaiserhoff added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Cowing walked and Brian Davison reached on an infield single. Both Cowing and Davison came home on the first of three Laker errors in the game, this a two-base throwing error by pitcher Steve Christiansen on a Ryan Wellmann bunt. Andy Stolt's sacrifice bunt placed Wellmann at third and a Jeff Dolan base hit scored him. The Kaiserhoff added a single run in the fifth when Buck singled, stole second and came home on Brady Ranweiler's second double of the game. The Lakers would put together their only real scoring threat in the top of the sixth after two were out. Russ Bauer singled and went to third on Mike Carpentier's single with Carpentier taking second on the throw to third. But Ranweiler retired Chris Reuvers on a groundout to end the inning. Brandon Rolloff's lead-off triple and a Buck sacrifice fly to deep leftfield in the seventh plated the final Kaiserhoff run of the game.
