NEW ULM -- Tight competition along with perfect weather made for a successful 2003 Kaiserhoff Golf Classic held at the New Ulm Country Club.

The team of Bob Miller, Marty Davis, Mark Davis, A.T. Annexstad and Dan Rhoades won the tournament with a score of 55.25.

The core of the group have been golfing at the Kaiserhoff Tournament for more than 10 years and the group finally came up with their first win.

"It was a team effort and everybody contributed, and that's what it takes in a scramble like this," team captain Bob Miller said. "I putted last and I think I had to putt only six times. They kept making them ahead of me, and that made it a lot easier."

Each member of Miller's team won $200 in cash along with receiving $100 in golf shop credit.

Miller also said that consistent play was key to team's win.

"We didn't have any eagles and obviously we didn't have any bogies," he said. "We just had 14 birdies and four pars."

Miller's team, along with the 35 other teams entered in the tournament, felt the tournament was well-run and the weather was very cooperative.

"It was low humidity," Miller said. "This is always a fun event. Everybody in town gets behind it and everyone contributes. It's really a good time."

Miller's group finished one stroke better than the team of Dick Price, Tom Ackerson, Ray Zellar, Dwight DeBoer, and Jerry Dannheim. For their second place finish, each won $140 and an additional $70 in golf shop credit.

Finishing in third place with a net score of 56.5 was the group of Jim Wallace, Bill Eichten, Bill Drusch, Vic Sargent, and Bob Burns. They each win $130 and $60 each in golf shop credit.

A three-way tie for fourth place was broken up by a tie-breaker. Lou Geistfeld, Paul Pieschel, Ken Koll, Walt Luneberg, and Noel Phifer took fourth with a net of 57.5. They each won $120 in cash.

Placing fifth, also with a 57.5, were Brad Wieland, Tom Lindemann, Ron Doty, Scott Arlandson and Sol Dulka. The each won $100.

Taking sixth and winning $70 with a 57.5 were Joe Lofsness, Jim Borseth, Steve Hawkins, Jerry Pagel, and Rodney Zimmer.

Seventh place was rewarded with $60 each, finishing with a net score of 58. The team was Mike Maloney, Chuck Mitch, Doug Zimmerman, Gary Peterson, and Larry Steinmetz.

Finishing in eighth with a 58 and winning $50 were Tom Fenske, Ken Paa, Jim Maurer, Rollo Lenz, and Bruce Savoy.

In the skins events, which were worth $360 per team, Scott Schuveiller, Jim Senske, Pat Kneefe, Ted Steichen, and Stan Dittrich shot a two on hole number four.

Dave Pilot, Frank Whitcomb, Mark Reiff, Elmer Epke, and Roger Schultz won the skins event on hole number 13 as they carded a three.
