Hoffmann lights up the ice

MANKATO -- Tiffany Hoffmann had four goals and an assist as the New Ulm girls hockey team downed Mankato West 6-3.

The Eagles outshot West 2-1 as Kayla Nesvold made 13 saves goal and West goalie Jenny Gorny made 25 saves.

"The girls really skated hard; I was a little concerned after getting 10 goals in the last game, that there would be a letdown," coach Dave Kunz said. "But the girls didn't do that at all. We took the lead in game and kept the pressure up. They put up with a lot of adversity [with uncalled penalties], and the girls kept their composure."

Hoffmann scored first in the first period on a pass from Amber Reinhart. In the second period, Hoffmann scored two unassisted goals, one of them being shorthanded. Mary Otis also scored in the second period with an assist from Hoffmann and Reinhart. Hoffmann struck again in the third period with assists going to Otis and Dani Budahn, and Emily Drexler wrapped up the scoring for the Eagles after an assist from Korinne O'Conner.

The Eagles (2-1) play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Luverne.
