School Board Proceedings Independent School District 88 New Ulm, Minnesota

The School Board of Independent School District 88 met in regular session on Thursday, June 24, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Annex Administration Building. Members present: Ullery, Wachter, Wieland, Ackerson, Burkhart, and Nierengarten. Also present: Superintendent Harold Remme, Director of Curriculum/Instruction and Personnel Bill Sprung, and Business Manager Donna Luhring. Unable to attend: Rieke. The meeting was called to order and guests were welcomed by Chair Ullery at 7:00 p.m. 1. Wachter/Wieland approval of consent items as presented: declared a legal meeting; approved agenda with the addition of an addendum; approved June 24, 2004 meeting minutes; approved wire transfers totaling $1,584,293.55; accepted the April 2004 Cash Balance Report; accepted donations, approved memberships with Minnesota School Boards Association and Minnesota Rural Education Association. (6-0) 2. Information Reports-Superintendent's Report and Announcements. 3. Dialogue Time: Linda Wintz shared an annual RiverBend Education District report. A first reading of the following policies was held: Policy #410-Family and Medical Leave; Policy #414-Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Physical or Sexual Abuse; Policy #417-Chemical Use and Abuse; Policy #424-License Status, and Policy #445-Staff Protection. 4. Nierengarten/Wachter to approve the 2004-05 school year the school board reorganizational designations: (1) Official Newspaper-The Journal of New Ulm. (2) Checking-Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund, Citizens Bank of New Ulm, Valley Bank & Trust. (3) Investments-Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund, Alliance Bank, Citizens Bank of New Ulm, TCF National Bank, United Prairie Bank, Valley Bank & Trust, and Wells Fargo Bank Minnesota NA. (4) Electronic Fund Transfers-Approve the use of wire transfers; authorize Donna Luhring, Paula Wenninger, and Harold Remme to make electronic fund transfers on behalf of ISD 88 according to Minnesota Statutes for the 2004-05 school year. (5) Attorney-Gislason & Hunter and Ratwik, Roszak, and Associates Law Firm. (6) Health Officials-Dr. Charles Stephens and Dr. Chris Miller. (6-0) 5. Wieland/Ackerson to approve the schematic designs proposed for Jefferson, Washington and New Ulm Senior High School and to authorize moving forward with the developmental design phase to be presented for Board of Education consideration no later than November 2004. (6-0) 6. Wachter/Ackerson to recommend approval of the three year contract for environmental management services with Institute for Environmental Assessment as per contract. (6-0) 7. Nierengarten/Wieland to raise all lunch and milk prices by 5-cents to cover the increased cost of milk. (6-0) 8. Wieland/Nierengarten to approve the June 2004 Supplementary Payroll in the total amount of $67,366.68 and bills for audit for July 9, 2004 in the total amount of $476,228.63. (6-0) 9. Ackerson/Wachter to accept with appreciation and regret the retirement of Sylvia Aufderheide, 1.0 FTE, Senior High English Teacher. (6-0) 10. Wieland/Nierengarten to accept with regret the resignation of Todd Nelson, .5 FTE, Senior High Business Teacher. (6-0) 11. Nierengarten/Burkhart to approve the hiring of Jeffrey Anderson, 1.0 FTE, Senior High Social Studies Teacher at a Step 03, Lane BA for the 2004-05 school year. (6-0) 12. Nierengarten/Ackerson to authorize the posting of the vacant positions: (a) .5 FTE Business Teacher and (b) .8 FTE to 1.0 FTE Middle School or High School English Teacher. (6-0) 13.
