Adelia Volz, 95, of the Oak Hills Living Center, formerly of 622 North State St. in New Ulm, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Mabel Anderson, 91, of Madelia, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial i the Faith Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Pilgrim Funeral Home. A complete obituary will be published in The Journal on Monday. Marie L. Wolterman, 73, of Fairfax, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at her daughter's home in Miami, Fla. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser-Hantge Chapel in Fairfax and one hour prior to the services at the church. VFW Auxiliary Service at 5 p.m. Tuesday night at the Funeral Home. A 7 p.m. prayer service will be held Tuesday at the funeral home. Mildred A. Beilke, 72, of Fairfax, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-11 a.m. Monday at the Hauser-Hantge Chapel in Fairfax and one hour prior to services at the church. She is survived by her husband, Willard Beilke of Fairfax; children, Mark and Denise Beilke of Chaska, Dean and Bonnie Beilke of Apple Valley, Kurt and Sue Beilke of New Ulm, and Penny and Bill Petersen of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; brother Harold Kuester of New Ulm and sisters Mable Reinhart of New Ulm and Florence Beilke of Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter in infancy. She was born March 12, 1927 in New Ulm to Carl and Martha (Guse) Kuester. She graduated from the New Ulm High School in 1945. She married Willard Beilke on Sept. 25, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax and was active in the St. John Ladies Aid for many years. A complete obituary will appear in The Journal on Monday. William "Bill" A. Fennern, 79, of Springfield, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. He is survived by his wife Marie Fennern of Morgan, a daughter Marietta and Russ Weber of Morgan; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; a sister Frieda Fennern of Springfield and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edmund, Arthur, Ernest, Herbert, Alfred, Ben, George, and Harold ,and sisters Hertha Fennern, Esther Kruse and Florence Mattison. He was born April 10, 1920 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to William and Sophie (Foelster) Fennern. He grew up and attended country school in Willow Lake Township. He married Marie Carstenson on Dec. 23, 1947 in Springfield where he worked as a bricklayer and mason for many years in the construction business. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church,Springfield, and the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Martin H. Bode, 83, of 410 6th Street, Nicollet died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 at the Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery in Nicollet township, Nicollet County. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 510 of Nicollet. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Bode of Nicollet; sisters and brothers-in-law, Viola Enter of New London, Wis., Edith and Ed Pettengell of Jerseyville, Ill., Esther Enter of Nicollet, Ardella Bruns of Mankato, and Lillian and Joel Gerlach of Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Violet Bode of Nicollet, Glenda Bode of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alfred, Elden, Rueben, Raymond and Elmer Bode; and a sister, Gertrude Stolt. He was born Jan. 12, 1916 in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County to Martin and Emilie (Dueball) Bode. He attended country school for one year and then attended Trinity Lutheran School for six years and later took business courses at Mankato Community College. He then worked at the Courtland State Bank for six years and then was Deputy County Auditor in St. Peter from Jan. 1, 1939 to May 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 25, 1942 to Dec. 13, 1945. While in the service he was on the Atlantic Special Convoy Duty. After the service he returned to the Nicollet State Bank in Nicollet and retired as the CEO in 1981. He married Myrtle Hansen on Sept. 1, 1949 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage in Nicollet. He had served for 15 years as a member of the Nicollet Public School Board. He was a member of the American Legion Post 510 of Nicollet. He was a life long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and was past treasurer of the building committees at church Stanley M. Sobocinski, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at Sleepy Eye. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye and military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a K.C. and Catholic Aid Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's School endowment fund. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Sleepy Eye; children, Stan Jr. and Sharon of Apple Valley, Mark of Hamel, Paul and Candy of Wabasso, Barbara and Mike Szostkowski of St. Paul, Thomas and Prudence of Leysin, Switzerland; Charles and Cindy of Barnesville, Robert and Lynn of New Prague, Carole Steffl of Maple Plain; 21 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ostrowski, Rose and Charles Polkoski and Catherine Corno, and many nieces and nephews in New York. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen, Jenny, Sophie and Tessie, and brothers, Charles and Bruno Sobocinski. He was born Feb. 17, 1914 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Henry and Anna Sobocinski. He grew up in Long Island where he attended and graduated from school in 1930. He worked for several years as a salesman and fuel oil delivery trucker for Petroleum Heat and Power Co. in Brooklyn. In April 1941, he entered the United States Army and was trained as an artillery mechanic. On Feb. 21, 1944, he married Margaret Zschetsche at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Following their marriage, Stan returned to the European Theatre, including the Battle of the Bulge, from 1944-1945. After the war, the couple resided and farmed in the Sleepy Eye area. Stan retired from farming in 1976, and the couple moved into town in 1978. He was an active member of the National Farmers Organization, Minnesota Groundswell, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Aid Association. Robert K. Smith, 84, of rural Redwood Falls died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at his home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Kulow Funeral Service of Echo is in charge of arrangements. He survived by wife Arlene of rural Redwood Falls; children, Joy and Duane Slater of Chanhassen, Kay and Dennis Christenson of Belview, Eugene and Susan Smith of Renville and Roy and Jackie Smith of Chaska; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Redwood Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Maud (Mrs. Carl Peterson), a brother James Smith and one grandson. He was born July 17, 1915 in Kintire Township, Redwood County to George (Will) and Maud Ella (Kempton) Smith. He grew up in Kintire Township and attended District 28 East Country School and he graduated from Belview High School in 1935. He married Arlene Weidemann, on Dec. 17, 1939, at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. They settled in Kintire Township where they farmed. He owned and operated Delhi Blacksmith Shop for 10 years. He also served on District 55 school board, the Delhi Public School board and served on the Delhi City Council. The family moved to Excelsior and lived there for 16 years. He worked at a foundry and then Research Incorporated in Hopkins. He and his wife Arlene did custodial work at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior for 14 years. They retired in 1977 and moved back to the Smith family homestead in Kintire Township. Judith Ann Kintzi, 57, of New Ulm died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999. A memorial service will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1400 S. State Street, New Ulm. Ella Sannwald, 98, of New Ulm, died Saturday morning at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm.
