Colburn, 84, of Springfield, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at the Springfield Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield, with interment at the Springfield City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and one hour before services. Alice is survived by her daughters Gladys and husband Merlyn Tews of Florence, Ariz.; Rose and husband Lyle Bestland of New London; Carol and husband Roger Kemp of Bloomington; son Andrew and wife Jeanette Colburn of Carter Lake, Iowa; a son-in-law Kenneth Richert of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Addie and husband Bob Warnkie of Sulten Sea, Calif. and Emily Devolt of Asperia, Calif..; brothers, Lester and wife Evelyn Brown of Grand Heights, Texas; sister-in-law Erma Colburn of Comfrey; and brother-in-law, Henry and wife Myra Colburn of Marshall. She was born May 8, 1914 to Rhynold and Rosey (Duley) Brown in rural Sanborn. She married Clifford Colburn Sept. 8, 1931 in Springfield. She lived in Stately Township, Brown County until 1975 when she moved into Springfield. She worked as a restaurant cook from 1971 until retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and the WELCA. She was a member of the TRIAD, an active member and 1998 president of Springfield Senior Citizens, member of the West Stately Extension Club and the Cross Country Trail Riders. Catherine M. Olsen, 94, Sleepy Eye, died Dec. 31, 1998 at the Springfield Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Evan. Interment will be at Prairieville Cemetery, Evan. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye., and one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by daughters, Darlene and husband Odin Hansen of Sleepy Eye, Dorthy and husband Rodney Jacobsen of Springfield; seven grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Dorothy Erickson of California; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis; brothers, Jens, Marvin, Hoger, Carl and Bill and a great grandson, Matthew Hansen. She was born Feb. 23, 1904 in Union Township, Livingston County, Ill. to Nels "Chris" and Karen "Dorthea" (Henricksen) Ericksen. She attended rural Odell, Ill. schools until 1915 when her family moved to rural Sleepy Eye, then attended District 29 school in Brown County. Catherine lived at home and worked as a domestic for several years before moving to Chicago, where she was a waitress at a large Norwegian restaurant. She moved back to the Sleepy Eye area and married Francis Olsen on Feb. 17, 1925 at her parents home in rural Sleepy Eye. Following marriage the couple moved to rural Newell, Iowa and farmed until 1932 when they returned to rural Evan. Catherine lived in the Countryside Apartments and Sleepy Eye Care Center before moving to the St. Johns Lutheran Home in Springfield in May of 1998. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan and was a past treasurer of the Sunday School and Ladies Aid. Hilda Roble, 79, of 516 S. Jefferson St., New Ulm, died Friday morning, Jan. 1, 1999, at her home. Arrangements are pending with the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm.Irene F. OlsonWINTHROP -- Irene F. Olson, 90, of Winthrop, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 at the Arlington Municipal Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Frist Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. A full obituary will be printed in The Journal on Sunday. Frank Gaasch, 101, of Morton, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Morton with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Morton. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with parish prayers held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gaasch of Morton; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Frank is preceded in death by three brothers Albert, Edward and Daniel, and a sister Ann. Charles Frank Gaasch was born March 15, 1897 in Morton, the son of Franz and Mary (Clancy) Gaasch. He grew up in Morton. Frank graduated from Morton High School and continued his education at Marquette University. While going to college he was drafted to serve in the Army during World War I. On Feb. 29, 1960 he married Margaret Hoffman at St. John's Catholic Church in Morton. They made their home near Morton on a farm where lie engaged in farming. Frank was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and belonged to Catholic Order of Foresters and was a American Legion Charter Member. Lois A. Sieving, 83, of St. James died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 at the St. James hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. James, with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by her husband Herman Sieving of St. James; children Priscilla Stratton of Yuma, Ariz; Roger Sieving of California, and Evelyn and husband Terry Hagen of rural Hanska; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister Patricia and husband Wallace Anderson of Lansing, Ill. and her brother Robert and wife Gertrude Johnson of Glendale, Calif. She was preceded in death by her sisters Vivian and Betty; a brother Edward; and a sister-in-law: Edythe Kring. She was born May 18, 1935 to Henry and Ruth (Bliss) Sieving in Rockford, Ill. As a child, Lois and her family lived in Chicago until 1945, when they moved to Allegan, Mich. She married Herman W. Sieving on June 1, 1935 in Chicago, Ill. They wintered in Pfarr, Texas until last year. In 1996, Herman and Lois moved to St. James. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James, the St. Paul's Afternoon Guild, the Lois Club, Swing Saints Square Dance Club in St. James and the Ichebans and Skis Round Dance Clubs in Pfarr, Texas.
