   Hilda Roble, 79, of 516 South Jefferson St., New Ulm, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 at her home.
   Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the soldier's rest section of the New Ulm City Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.
   Survivors include daughters, Tammy Truebenbach and her husband Wes of Kilkenny, Patti Winters of Oakdale, Donna Cariveau and her husband Mike of New Ulm; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Olga Ebersold of Red Wing, Ragna Large of Temple City, Calif., Elaine Hanson and her husband Johnny of Kenyon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; a brother, Johnny Hanson, a sister, Paula Spring, and a son-in-law, Ronald D. Winters.
   She was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Kenyon to of Ole and Kristine (Lundly) Hanson. After graduating from Kenyon High School, she worked for a time as a waitress. She married Donald Roble Oct. 8, 1941 in Kenyon. They made their home in Eagle Lake for many years before moving to New Ulm in 1966. Following her husband's death on Dec. 6, 1995, she continued to make her home in New Ulm. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Orbit League of the New Ulm Bowling Association since 1968, and the Glockenspiel Club of Citizen's Bank.
   Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church.

   Esther Newton, 82 of the Truman-Springfield-Welcome area, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 at the Lutz Wing of Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.
   Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, with burial in Fairview Memorial Park at Fairmont,.
   Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Welcome, and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.
   Survivors include daughters, Beverly Trebesch and husband, Ronald of Welcome, and Karen Wagner of Apple Valley; a son, Jerald Newton and wife Mary Jo of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maxine Hoppe of Trimont, Ruth Meyer and her husband, Al of Fairmont, Evelyn Hoppe of Granada, Betty Melander and her husband, Ted, of Golden Valley, Nelda Isenberg and her husband, Con, of Maple Grove, and Angie Newton of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd Newton; a daughter, Lois Krueger, ten brothers Henry, William, Glen, Chester, John, Edward, Clarence, Vern, Victor and Ervin Hoppe, and other relatives.
   She was born May 23, 1916 in Algona, Iowa to John and Anna (Miller) Hoppe. She moved with her family to a farm near East Chain. She was educated in rural schools in the East Chain area. She worked for various families in their homes. On Oct. 16, 1937 she married Boyd Newton in Estherville, Iowa. After marriage they lived in the East Chain am until moving to Truman. They later moved to Springfield. Along with her husband and family they were church custodians for the United Methodist Church in Springfield for many years. Boyd died March 3, 1970. She continued living in Springfield until moving to Welcome in 1991. Since 1997, she has been a resident of the Lutz Wing of the Fairmont Community Hospital.
   She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield. She was an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome.
