Grant W. Anderson, 79, of Winthrop, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Glencoe Area Health Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, with burial in the church cemetery. The Winthrop Honor Guard will conduct full military rites. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and one hour prior to the service at the church. He is survived by brothers and their spouses, Morel and Margaret of Gibbon, Marvin and Maxine of South Shore, S.D., Vernon of Minneapolis, Charles and Marian of Gaylord, Robert and Margaret of Apple River, Ill.; sisters and their spouses, Marie and Edgar Abraham of Gaylord, Joanne and Earl Messner of Anoka, Helen Schlottman of Stafford, Va., Joyce and Felix Schloegel of Roseville; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harlan. He was born Jan. 31, 1920, in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County, to Ernest and Grace (Olson) Anderson. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II in 1942 and fought in the Aleutian Islands, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, the Rhineland, southern France, and in central Europe. He received a number of decorations and citations, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He worked for the state highway department for over 20 years and retired from MnDOT in 1982. He entered the Glencoe Area Health Care Center's long-term care unit in 1991. He was a member of Bernadotte Lutheran Church. He was a member of Winthrop American Legion Post 314, Winthrop V.F.W., and the 1st Special Service Force Association. Melba Tlam, 96, of Lamberton died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000 at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Services will be 10:30a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Lamberton with burial in the Lamberton Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton and one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by stepson, Elvin Tlam of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; stepgrandchildren, Tom Tlam of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Cheryl Tlam-Foster and spouse Harold of Kenya, Africa; step great-granddaughter, Anna Foster; sister, Viola Reif of Bismarck, N.D.; brothers and spouses, Theodore and Ura Kissner of Lamberton, Robert and Wilma Kissner of Jeffers; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William in 1979; sisters, Agonia Borchert, Luella Matzke. She was born April 23, 1903, in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, to Louis and Anna (Marti) Kissner. She attended c school in Germantown Township. She attended North Dakota Business College in the 1930s where she also worked at Woolworth's. She returned to Minnesota in 1943, working at mercantile stores in Lamberton and Jeffers. She married William P. Tlam on March 22, 1952, in Jeffers. They farmed until retiring in the late 1960s. She remained in Jeffers until moving to Lamberton in 1983. She moved into Valley View Manor in 1997. She was a member of the Lamberton United Methodist Church. Lloyl Fossum, 76, of Belview, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Sauk Rapids. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour prior to the service. Sunset Funeral Home of Echo is handling the arrangements. He is survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Opal Ingebretson of Inver Grove Heights, Ferne and Les Rakke of Sauk Rapids; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar, Norris, Owen; sister, Dagmar Rebstock. He was born June 12, 1923, in Kintire Township, Redwood County, to Oscar and Lena (Schjenken) Fossum. He attended District 10 school near Belview. He was a farm laborer and worked for Alvin Sander in his tiling business. He also worked for the maintenance department of the city of Belview. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Joseph J. Zenk, 82, of Olivia, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and continuing Friday 9-10 a.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters and spouses, Joan and Craig Zenk Woods of Kings Beach, Calif, Karen and Mark Baldwin of Longville, Peg and Mark Bitter of Hilo, Hawaii; sons and spouses, James and Dianne, J. Richard and Lorna, Steve and Maria Zenk, all of Danube; 14 grandchildren; sister and spouse, Dorothy and Ray Manderfeld of New Ulm; brother and spouse, Bob and Lois Zenk of Golden Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sylvester, LeRoy, Lawrence, and Paul; and sister, Mary Reichling. He was born May 6, 1917, in Remsen, Iowa, to Joseph and Margaret (Kennedy) Zenk. He moved to Sleepy Eye in 1926, attending St. Mary's Catholic School there. He enrolled at the University of Minnesota in 1936. He married Margaret Lang at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield in 1942. They farmed in the Sleepy Eye area until 1944 when they moved to a farm north of Olivia. He farmed in the Olivia and Danube area until retiring in 1980. In 1994 they moved into Olivia. He was manager of Zenk Farm Supply in Danube. Twila L. Roiger, 49, of St. Clair died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by husband, David of St. Clair; daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Chandler Holland of St. Clair; son, Ben Roiger and his special friend Julie Sollstrom of Mankato; grand children, Spencer and Aidan Holland; mother, Marlyce Tews of New Ulm; sisters and brother-in-law Faith and Richard Johnson of Mankato, Carmen Williams of New Ulm, Dawn Tews and her special friend Randy Weber of Wells; brothers and sister-in-law, Lowell Lamond and Cindy Tews of Minneapolis, Craig Tews, John Tews and his fiance Trisha Regner, all of New Ulm; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Elaine Roiger; sister-in-law and spouse, Beth and John Gohr; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Douglas and Betty Roiger, all of New Ulm, Michael and Cheryl Roiger, of Syndey, Mont. She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Tews; brother, Nathan Tews; father-in-law, Donald Roiger. She was born June 10, 1953, in Waverly, Iowa, to Lowell and Marlyce (Compart) Tews. She married David Roiger on Aug. 29, 1971, in New Ulm. She was employed by Carlson Craft for 18 years. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Walter Wels, 81, formerly of rural Nicollet, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Immanuel-St.Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet.
