   Ethelyn "Edie" L. Schreiner, 84, of Atwater, and formerly of Winthrop, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Mesa General Hospital, Mesa, Ariz.
   Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church,Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery in the spring.
   Visitation is one hour before the services Saturday at the church.
   Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel of Winthrop is handling arrangements. A complete obituary will appear in tomorrow's edition.

   Gerald "Jerry" W. Hansen, 70, of Winthrop, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
   Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. The Winthrop Honor Guard will provide military rites at the church.
   Visitation is one hour before services Thursday at the church. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel of Winthrop is handling arrangements.

   Hazel Gustafson, 88 of Lafayette, formerly of Winthrop, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999 at Good Samaritan Center of Lafayette.
   Services are 11 a.m. today at Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is be 9-11 a.m. today at the church. Arrangements are through Firle Funeral Home in Lafayette.
   She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband,George; sisters, Stella Monson, Sarah Webster and Florence Linden.
   She was born May 18, 1910 in Nicollet County to Roland and Clara (Buelow) Thompson. She married George Gustafson in 1931 in St. Peter. They lived on the family farm in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County for 50 years. After retiring, the couple moved to Winthrop. She entered the Lafayette Good Samaritan Center in 1992.

   DeMar 'Cotton' Anderson, 79 of 305 S. Broadway, New Ulm, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999 at his home.
   Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by New Ulm's veterans organization.
   Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
   He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Isensee of Plymouth; grandchildren, Scott Isensee of Crest Butte, Colo., Jill Isensee of Boulder, Colo.; sister, LaVonne Reitter of New Ulm; brother-in-law and his wife, Donald and Alice Dannheim of New Ulm; nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by wife Helen in 1992; brother-in-law, Bud Reitter; sister-in-law, Gertrude Dannheim.
   He was born July 5, 1919 in New Ulm to Harry "Tanny" and Elsie (Gutzke) Anderson. He attended New Ulm public schools. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1941 and served with the SQF 110th during World War II. He was honorably discharged in August 1945 and returned to New Ulm. He worked in his father's restaurant in Lafayette and later started the municipal liquor store in that city. He worked for Dannheim Dairy for ten years. He and his wife owned and operated a liquor store on North Broadway in New Ulm for 28 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion. He was a charter member of New Ulm Club and New Ulm Country Club. He was a pst manager of the Lafayette baseball team.

   Dorothy Aspelund, 79 of rural St. James died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999 at her home.
   Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James with burial in the spring in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Pease Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to the service at the church.
   She is survived by husband, Elmo; daughter, Lois Aspelund; son and daughter-in-law Dean and Nancy Aspelund; three grandchildren, all of rural St. James.; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Betty Mecklenburg of New Ulm.
   She was preceded in death by brother, Gilbert Mecklenburg.
   She was born Oct. 24, 1919, in New Ulm to Alex and Gertrude (Meyer) Mecklenburg. She was a graduate of New Ulm High School. She married Elmo Aspelund April 24, 1954 in New Ulm. They farmed in Albion Township, Brown County. She was a member of Albion Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid.

   John P. 'Jack' O'Brien, 71 of rural Henderson, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 199 at Minnesota Valley Health Center in LeSueur.
    Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Green Isle with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Friday 4-9 p.m. and 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
   Fenske Funeral Home of Arlington handled arrangements.
   He is survived by wife, Donna O'Brien of rural Henderson; son, Leonard and wife Colleen of Charles City, Iowa; daughter, Margaret O'Brien of Plymouth; grandchildren, Megan, Logan and Tyler O'Brien; brothers, Francis and wife Linda of LeSueur, Thomas and wife Therese of Belle Plaine, Gerald and wife Frances of Chanhassen, Donald and wife Mary Jane, Finton, Kevin and wife Marilyn, all of Belle Plaine, Keiran and Diane of Eden Prairie, Joseph and wife Bernice O'Brien of Jordan; sisters, Mary Catherine and husband Charles Buley and Mankato, Geraldine and husband Joe Latterell of Foley, Colleen and husband Gene Sathre of Honolulu.
   He was preceded in death by daughter, Anne Marie; son, William; brother William;and sister Mary Therese.
   He was born Jan. 16, 1927 in Belle Plaine Township, Scott County, to John E. and Catherine (Shea) O'Brien. He attended Kerry Lake Elementary School. He married Donna Bynne on Sept. 27, 1952, at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny. Since 1960, he farmed in Washington Lake Township, rural Henderson. He was a member of the Green Isle Am. Legion Post 408, Green Isle Knights of Columbus, Arlington, which he was a former officer. He was a former Council member of St. Brendan Catholic Church.

   Tiffini Sturm, 19, of Moose Pass, Alaska, and formerly of Springfield, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, near Slodatna, Alaska as the result of a traffic accident.
   Arrangments are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield.

   Albert L. Bruss, 89, of 1401 N. Jefferson in New Ulm died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
   Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

   Norma Kepler, 78, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield.
