Violet M. "Vi" Albrecht, 86, of 2201 North Broadway in New Ulm died Thursday January 13, 2000 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Christ Hippert, Dianne and LaRay Johnson all of New Ulm; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Myrtle Anderson of New Ulm, Esther Schreyer of Pine Island; nieces and nephews; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alton and Judy Albrecht of rural New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick Albrecht in 1984; seven brothers and two sisters. She was born Feb. 7, 1913 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Gullick and Amelia (Sandquist) Johnson. She married Frederick Albrecht May 1, 1936 in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. They retired from farming in 1973 but continued to live on the farm. They moved into New Ulm in 1984. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm, Ladies Aid, and the Senior Citizen Center in New Ulm. Memorials can be given in lieu of flowers. Rose V. Zupfer, 95, of New Ulm died Friday, January 14, 2000 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society will lead the Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service will be 6:30 p.m., both Sunday evening at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. She is survived by her sister, Ella Berdan of New Ulm; sisters -in-law, Ruth Preisinger, Delores Preisinger, Alice Berdan all of New Ulm, Irma Schwantes of Fulda and Marilyn Stelton of Brooklyn Center; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur J. Zupfer; brothers, Raymond and Henry Preisinger; and sisters, Kathryn Rodewald, Emily Klingler, Anne Gruber, and Elsie Gruber. She was born on June 11, 1904 in Nicollet County, Minnesota to Joseph and Kate (Ries) Preisinger. She attended the District #51 Country School. She married Arthur A. Zupfer on June 10, 1944 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm. After their marriage they lived in Milwaukee, Wis. for over 35 years until Arthur retired and they returned to live in New Ulm in 1972. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Clara M. Cary, of Arlington died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 at the Glencoe Area Health Center. Services will be 2 p.m Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in the Arlington Public Cemetery. Visitation is 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington is handling arrangements. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Steve and Mary Cary of Minnetonka; brother Alvin R, Mueller of New Ulm; sister-in-law Lucille Mueller of Brooklyn Center; three nieces. Eva Hagquist, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 at the Samaritan Bethany Heights Nursing Home in Rochester. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Hector; burial in the city cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to the time of service Saturday. Arrangements have been made with Hughes Funeral Home. She is survived by her son Donald (Wanda) Hagquist of Rochester; grandson Drew Hagquist of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard and three children Ruth, Nicholas and Carol. She was born Aug. 24, 1907 at Hector, to Nicholas and Emma Nelson. She married Leonard Hagquist in 1926 and they made their home in Hector their entire married life. Leonard died in 1993 and she moved in with her son in Rochester. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Hector and was active in W.E.L.C.A. Alvin B. Scheartz, 83 of Tracey died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 at the Tracey Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Tracey, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracey, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of The Journal. Sister Francis (Catherine) Forster, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 in Ogden. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ogden. Visitation will be held at Mount Benedict Monastery in Ogden 4-7 p.m. Sunday. Vigil Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Monastery Chapel. Burial will be in Myers Evergreen Memorial Park in Ogden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Benedict Monastery building fund. Myers Mortuary in Ogden is handling the arrangements. She is survived by the sisters of her Benedictine community; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She was born in New Ulm to Frank and Sophia (Seifert) Forster. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1933 and she entered the Scholasticate at St. Benedict's Monastery at St. Joseph. She was received into the novitiate in 1935. She professed vows in 1936 and celebrated her 60th jubilee in 1996. She retired in 1988 in the healthcare field. She began as an X-ray technician at St. Cloud Hospital in 1938 and was made the director of that department until 1943. From 1949-1958 she was administrator of St. Cloud Hospital. In 1958 she came to St. Benedict's Hospital in Ogden and for the next 30 years she served in numerous positions at the hospital. She also served for five years as vice president of Mission Effectiveness. When St. Benedict's Hospital formed its Health System in 1982, she served as a valued trustee. She also served on many other boards and committees in her professional field. In 1980, she also helped the sisters in Utah form a dependant priority. She was elected its first regional superior and re-elected in 1984. In 1983 she received the Distinguished Service to Healthcare Award for 45 years in the healthcare field. In 1986 she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanities by Weber State College for her many years of humanitarian service. The Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Award from Pope John Paul II was conferred on her by Bishop William Weigand in 1989. Jeanette L. Riegel, 88, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Redwood Falls, died on Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday, at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls. She is survived by her husband, Melvin H. Riegel, of Sleepy Eye; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Virginia Riegel, of Lakewood, Colo., and John and Cathie Riegel, of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Leslie Schrupp, of Sleepy Eye; sisters and brother -in-law, Margaret Cole, Delores Steinkraus, all of Redwood Falls, Marie and John McDonald, of Woodbury; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Kathleen Ruder, of Redwood Falls; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was born Oct. 1, 1911, in Delhi Township, Redwood County, to John and Louise (Fox) Ruder. She grew up and attended school in Delhi Township and graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1929. She married Melvin H. Riegel June 28, 1932 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church. She was employed in the register's office in the Redwood County Courthouse, before she went to work in the business office of Ehler's Department Store. In 1998 she and Melvin moved to Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and C.C.W. of St. Catherine's.
