Florian Turbes, 95, of Springfield, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. William 'Bill' Mueller, 98, of Stewart, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center. Services are 11 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation continues one hour prior to Monday's service at the church. Hughes Funeral Homes handled arrangements. He is survived by sisters, Bernice Eitel of Stewart and Lucille Schueller of Norwood-Young America; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther; brothers, Arthur, Tillman, Arnold and Harold; and sisters, Myrtle Mueller and Edna Breuer. William John Mueller was born June 3, 1901, in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Charles and Emma (Ruschmeyer) Mueller. He grew up in the Stewart area and attended country school. He married Esther Essie Kahlow Dec. 14, 1929 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. He farmed in the Stewart area . He entered Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in April of 1997. He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Don M. Cunningham, 55, of Kasota, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel in Mankato. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to Tuesday's services. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Michael Cunningham and wife Janine of Burnsville; daughter, Michelle Tauer and husband David of New Ulm; adopted daughter, Deb Askildson and husband Clark of Albert Lea; stepson, Brian Wussow and wife Lisa of St. Peter; stepdaughters, Kelly Freeberg of Pine Island, Jody Braam and husband Gene, Jr. of Eagle Lake; two grandchildren, eight step grandchildren; brother, Joel Cunningham and wife Margie of El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy. He was born Oct. 27, 1944, in Springfield, to Melvin and Mabel (Wagner) Cunningham. He attended school in Sanborn. He served in the military from 1963-1966. He owned and operated Cunningham Standard Station at Sanborn Corners from 1966-1968. He married Marilyn Barr on Sept. 3, 1982, in Mankato. He worked as a video store manager. The couple moved several times due to his job, finally settling in Kasota. Robert J. Smith, 54, of Jeffers, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Avera McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Baptist Church in Jeffers with burial at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home in Jeffers and will continue from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the church. Ida Russell, 97, of Montevideo and formerly of Winthrop, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Lutheran Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Montevideo. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lafayette United Methodist Cemetery. Arrangements are handled by Anderson Funeral HOme, Montevideo. She is survived by daughters, Ilene Bussler and husband Delfert of Winthrop, Lorna Runck and husband Erv of Lamberton and Elizabeth Russell of Montevideo; grandchildren, Russell Runck, Rochelle Runck, Troy Runck, Barbara Bumgardner, Brian Bussler, Denise Kalenburg and Andrea Thompson; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel Stade of Eden Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, May 16, 1978; grandson, Darren Bussler; brothers, Louis, Edwin, Ivan, Carl and Benjamin; and sisters, Lily Fischer and Gladys Schlarb. Ida Elsie Russell was born Sept. 30, 1902, in Ridgely Township, Nicollet County, to Charles and Ida (Frohrip) Bauermeister. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1921 and attended Mankato and St. Cloud teachers colleges. She married William Russell on June 4, 1930, at the Methodist parsonage in Marshall. They lived near New Ulm before moving to Winthrop in 1947 and to Montevideo in the late 1970s. She lived at Brookside Manor in Montevideo for 13 years. She had been a resident at Luther Haven Nursing Home the past 4 1/2 years. She was a member of the Sibley County Home Council, a 4-H Leader, Sibley County Extension Homemakers and Brookside Manor Resident Council. She was active at her church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of UMW, WSCS, Lydia Circle and was an MYF Leader. William 'Bill' Bruggeman, 78, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Sleepy Eye. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Bruggeman of Sleepy Eye; son, Mark and wife Elia Bruggeman of Sleepy Eye; daughter, Lori and husband Mark Dick of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Venessa, Erica, William and Brianna Bruggeman, Anthony and Jenna Dick; brother, Jack and wife Helen Bruggeman of Sleepy Eye; sister, Betty and husband Harold Young of Chaska. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Fairfax to Lawrence (L.J.) and Mary Margaret (Huelskamp) Bruggeman. He attended St. Andrew's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1938. He attended Business College in Minneapolis for one year and worked for Deere & Webber Co. in Minneapolis before returning to Sleepy Eye to join the Bruggeman and Schroeder Company in 1945. In 1947, he and his brother Jack purchased the Schroeder interest in the business and it became known as the Bruggeman company. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Sleepy Eye Eagles Club, Chamber of Commerce and was a past board member of St. Mary's Credit Union. Robert Satre , 69, of Winthrop, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hantge-Dalin Funeral Home in Winthrop with a masonic service at 7:30 p.m. by the Sibley Lodge 209 AF & AM. Visitation continues 7:30 a.m.- 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour before services at the church. If desired, memorials may be given to an organization of the donor's choice. A complete obituary will appear in a future edition. Dolores Arnold, 85, of Buffalo, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Ebenezer Covenant Home. Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of St. Francis in Buffalo with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo from 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday. She is survived by sister, Bernadette and husband Melvin T. Schroeer of New Ulm; brother, Williard Manderfeld of New Hope; and nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister-in-law, Mabelaura Manderfeld. She was born April 26, 1914. in New Ulm to Edward A. and Margaret (Dorn) Manderfeld. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm in 1932 and later attended a school of cosmetology in Minneapolis. She married Benjamin Arnold at Cathedral of The Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He died June 15, 1978.She was a member of the Church of St. Francis in Buffalo. Alvin B. Schwartz, 83, of Tracy, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Tracy Nursing Home. Services are 11 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will follow the luncheon at Zion Cemetery in Springfield. Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements, He is survived by his wife, Mildred,; one sister, Verna Lueck of St. James; sister-in-law, Julie Hoppe of Brownton; seven nieces; two nephews, cousins and many friends, He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eldor and one nephew. He was born Feb. 12, 1916, to Ben and Sarah (Hoffman) Schwartz in Sundown Township, Redwood County. He attended country school. On June 22, 1938, he married Mildred Hoppe in Sanborn. They made their home on the family farm, continuing to farm along with his parents. In 1941, they moved to a farm near Milroy and lived there until he entered the Tracy Nursing Home in December 1999.
