Johnson, 86, of Bloomington, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday at her home. Visitation is 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's in Sleepy Eye, with burial to follow at Prairieville Cemetery in Evan. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. She is survived by her husband Jerome Johnson of Sleepy Eye, children and their spouses, Judy and Gary Goblirsch of Bloomington, Jeff and Connie Johnson of Phoenix, Brad and Maria Johnson of Smyrna, Tenn., grandchildren, Tim Goblirsch, Stephanie and Rob Clarke, Kimberly and Michea Johnson, Sheila and Eric Princl, Jazmin Johnson, James "JP" Johnson and Mathew Johnson, great grandchild Bobby Clarke, brother-in-law, Jerry and wife Colleen Johnson of Bloomington, sister-in-law, Alice Rothmeier of Fairbault and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law, Les and wife Francis Hansen and Ed Rothmeier and twin great grand baby angels. Audrey was born on Nov. 13, 1915, in Minneapolis, the daughter of William and Doris (Friedrich) Caven. She grew up and attended school in Franklin and Fairfax. Audrey graduated from Fairfax High School. She married James Johnson on Oct. 14, 1940, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye where Audrey worked at the Sleepy Eye Medical Clinic. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Audrey enjoyed traveling in Ireland, spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, dancing, polishing her nails and being Irish. Pearl Hughes, age 73, of Hector, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care. Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hector. Interment in the Hector City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Pearl Elizabeth Hughes was born July 28, 1928, in rural Grantsburg, Wis., the daughter of Per Albert and Ida Helen (Larson) Peterson. She grew up in rural Grantsburg. Upon graduation from the Grantsburg High School, Pearl lived and worked in St. Paul. On Dec. 20, 1947, Pearl was united in marriage to Raymond Hughes at the Trade Lake Baptist Church. The couple lived in St. Paul while Ray finished his college education. After living in Lake Crystal for six years, they made Hector their home in 1954. They founded the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector in 1960, expanding to locations in Buffalo Lake, Stewart, and Cosmos in the following years. Pearl was actively involved in and dedicated to the funeral home business and the Hughes Ambulance Service. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hector, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Pearl is survived by her children: Howard Hughes and his wife Sandra of Hector, Cindy Christopherson of Hector, and Don Hughes of Hector, grandchildren: Nichole Wurst and her husband Cory of Lake City, Aaron Peters of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Samantha Best and her husband Doug of Hector, Jacqueline Hughes and Guy Hughes of Hector; great-grandchildren Dawson Best and Carter Best of Hector; 2 brothers; 7 sisters: 2 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother Gladys, her husband Ray on July 25, 1996, 1 brother, and 7 sisters. Thomas Steinberg, 64, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at his home. Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Michael A. Madsen, age 40, of New Prague, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis after battling cancer for almost three years. Michael was born in New Ulm on Aug. 12, 1961, to Dale and Adele Madsen of Essig. He attended Dist. 213, Brown County, New Ulm Public Schools and Mankato Vo Tech. Michael's marriage to Tami J. Bisek took place in New Prague, on Oct. 22, 1988. He worked as an office manager at MN Valley Ag Co-op in New Prague and most recently at DC & H, a computer software company, in Inver Grove Heights. Michael is survived by his wife Tami, and two children, Cassie and Caleb of New Prague; parents Dale and Adele Madsen of Essig; parents-in-law Gene and Mary Bisek of New Prague; siblings, Terri (& Denny) McKenzie of Rochester, Vicki (& Bert) Englehard of Richfield, David and Steven of Essig, and Beth of New Ulm; brother-in-law Jim (& Michelle) Bisek of Jordan; sister-in-law Kim (& Jim) Ries of New Prague; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Mike and Dagny Madsen, Arthur and Alice Nelson, and mother-in-law Sandra Thurston. Visitation for Michael will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, from 4 - 9 p.m. at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague (952-758-4949) and for one hour prior to the service at church Friday morning. Services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague, followed by cremation at Lakewood Crematory in Minneapolis. Reverend Steve Trewartha will officiate at the service; pallbearers are: Terri and Denny McKenzie, Vicki and Bret Englehard, David Beth and Steven Madsen, Jim Bisek, and Jim Ries. Michael was an active member at Holy Trinity and in the various activities of his children. Cornelia Malmberg, 96, of Winthrop, formerly of Minneapolis, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Care Center. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling the arrangements. She was born Sept. 6, 1905, in Winthrop, to August and Clara (Anderson) Malmberg. Mildred Nafsinger, 90, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Sunwood Care Center in Redwood Falls. Visitation is 4 - 7 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service and 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls, with burial at the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Arrangements are with Nelson-Martin Funeral Service. She was born Dec. 7, 1911, to A.L. (Toby) and Florence Mae (Weinheimer) Nafsinger in Bagley, Iowa. Elmer Nelson, 93, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Redwood Falls; sons Douglas of Wabasso, Leon of Bemidji and Terry of Spicer; sister Alma Kenow of Fairbault; and three grandchildren. He was born on Jan. 10, 1909, in rural Clements, to Elmer and Inga (Christiansen) Nelson.
