Gertrude M. Stadtherr, 92, of Gibbon, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Lafayette Good Samaritan Care Center. Mass of Christian is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery . Visitation is one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. There will be a combined rosary at 10 a.m. at the church on Thursday by St. Willibrord's CCW and National Catholic Society of Foresters. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon is in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Bernice Stadtherr of Austin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Dr. Oscar Esser, Irene and Herman Franta, Patronella and Harold Peterson; brothers and sister-in-law, Wilfred "Tony" and Eleanor Stadtherr and Richard Stadtherr. She was born on July 7, 1907, in Gibbon to John and Genevieve (Bushard) Stadtherr. She attended Gibbon Public Schools She became a resident of Lafayette Good Samaritan Care Center in 1991. She was a member of the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church, CCW and National Catholic Society of Foresters. Katherine M. Scherer, 95, of Waterville, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Waterville Good Samaritan Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny. Burial will follow at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, one hour before services at the church. Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville is handling arrangements. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Jerome) Claffey of Kilkenny and Kathleen Brand of Chicago, 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1966, two daughters, one son, one brother, and two sisters. She was born July 30, 1904, in Calmar, Iowa, to Michael and Margaret (Steffas) Constantine. She attended parochial school through the fifth grade. She later moved with her family to Ipswich, S.D. After graduating from grade school, she moved to Spokane, Wash. with her grandparents and attended Holy Name Academy. After high school she returned to Timber Lake, S.D. where she cared for a cousin's children. She married Hubert Scherer on Nov. 27, 1923, at St. Michael's Church in Firesteel, S.D. They later moved to Minneapolis before settling in New Ulm in 1939. In 1953 she began working as an office receptionist for Dr. Jim Seifert D.D.S., in New Ulm and continued working there for several years. She was active in the Catholic Daughters, Bible Study Group. She served as a Brownie Scout Leader at Holy Trinity School and belonged to the "Irish Ladies Club." Margaret Schroepfer, 81, of 1018 S. Front St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Fairview Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Minneapolis. Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Alfred H. Schultz, 94, of Arlington, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4:30-8:30 p.m. today at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Thursday. He is survived by sons, Eugene and wife Susan of Arlington, Wayne and friend Cindi Kalenburg of New Auburn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie Perschau of Glencoe, Selma and Edwin Perschau of Glencoe, Irene Dougherty of Riverside, Calif., and Evelyn and Glen Carlson of Silver Lake; brother-in-law, Harold Grack of Arlington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Girdy and Lawrence Klaustermeier of Glencoe; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie on Dec. 31, 1996; brothers, Albert and Charles; and sisters, Mabel Grack, Frieda Schultz and Della Frauendienst. He was born Jan. 15, 1906, in New Auburn Township, rural Glencoe, to Karl and Millie (Rannow) Schultz. He attended school for six years. He married Marie E. Perschau on Sept. 25, 1935, at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe. He farmed in New Auburn Township and worked for Ralph Soeffker Sr. Construction. Hertha Grochow, 99, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000 at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Penn Township, McLeod County, with burial in the Winthrop City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Jeffrey Derby and Rita Derby Jeffery, 34; and Rita, 27, of the Lower Sioux Community, Morton, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2000, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Cornelia's Episcopal Church on the Lower Sioux, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. today and continues until time of services Thursday at the Lower Sioux Community Hall. Kulow Funeral Service of Echo is in charge of arrangements. Olga Schroeder, 94, of Nicollet, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Grandview Care Center in St. Peter. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery, rural Nicollet. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to time of service at the church on Thursday. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Ardella "Della" and Ralph Rieger of rural Mankato, Marlys "Molly" and Dave Rengstorf of rural Courtland; son-in-law, Wilbur Murphy and his wife Ann of Skokie, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandson; and sister-in-law, Bea Wels of Pine River. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred, on Oct, 7, 1959; daughter, Delores Murphy, on March 29, 1998; seven sisters; and four brothers. She was born Nov. 7, 1905, in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County, to Herman and Louise (Wischstadt) Wels. She attended country school. On Sept. 7, 1926, she married Alfred F. Schroeder at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. They farmed in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County until 1956 when they moved into Nicollet. For many years she worked at Hasse's Grocery Store in Nicollet. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, where she belonged to Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Nicollet Senior Citizens Club. James Suess, 59, of Butterfield, formerly of St. James, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at New Ulm Medical Center. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, St. James. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters, Lisa and husband Lenny Linscheid of New Ulm, Marie and husband Kevin Helferich of Mountain Lake, Jackie and husband Jim Harrington of Butterfield, Angela Suess of Butterfield; sons, Daniel and wife Charlotte of Butterfield, Scott and wife Charolette of Alexandria, S.D., James and Danelle of Las Vegas, Nev. and Dean and friend Lupe Gallegos of St. Cloud; 16 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; brother Alfred and wife Verna of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Rosella Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, Adeline and husband Pete Svobda of Olivia, Marie and husband Walter Evers, Cecilia and husband Richard Zwaschka and Marjorie and husband Thomas Prokosch, all of Comfrey; one brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Andy; two brothers; and two sisters. He was born April 15, 1940, in New Ulm, to Alfred and Louise (Hinderman) Suess. He attended country school in Mulligan Township, Brown County. He married Connie Dahmen in Sleepy Eye. They lived in St. James for several years, where he worked for ST Industries and Tony Downs Foods,. He moved to Butterfield in 1979, where he worked for Butterfield Foods.
