Margaret Schroepfer, 81, of 1018 S. Front St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Fairview Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 9-10 a.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm on Saturday. She is survived by her sister, Violet Dunn of the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax; brother-in-law, Willie Schroepfer of the Lafayette Good Samaritan Care Center in Lafayette; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Schroepfer in 1998; and brothers, George and Sidney Casper. She was born April 15, 1918, at Madison Lake to Bert and Laura (Knapp) Casper. She married Albert Schroepfer on March 8, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Herbert Wels, 83, of Rt. 2, Nicollet, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Grandview Care Center in St. Peter. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and one hour before the service Saturday at the church. A complete obituary will appear in Friday's edition. Jeffery Ray Derby, 34, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident near Morton. Services are 10:30 a.m. today at St. Cornelias Episcopal Church in the Lower Sioux Community with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation continues until the time of services at the community center. Kulow Funeral Service handled arrangements. His wife Rita Ann Derby, 27, of the Lower Sioux Community also died as a result of the same motor vehicle accident Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000 near Morton. He is survived by children, Sharee Derby and Jeffery Derby Jr., and stepchildren Larissa Baptiste and Athena Dow; mother, Carol Trudell of Santee, Neb.; and sisters and brothers, Ken, Marsha, Sherri, Tonya, and Kenny Jr. He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Chante' Ohidika Derby on Feb. 4, 1996; one sister, Rhonda; brother, Harvey; grandparents, Harvey and Ethel Derby and grandfather Morris McBride. He was born July 4, 1965, in Pipestone to Jeffery Harvey and Carol McBride. He lived in Mankato where he worked in landscaping. He married Rita Ann Dow on March 4, 1999 at Elk Point, S.D. She was preceded in death by her father; daughter, Chante Ohidika Derby on Feb. 4, 1996; brother, George; grandmother, Roxanne Baptiste; and grandfather Howard Dow. She was born Jan. 25, 1972, in St. Paul to Lindsey Baptiste and Cynthia Dow. She attended schools in St. Paul. She married Jeffery Derby on March 4, 1999 in Elk Point, S.D. The couple settled in the Lower Sioux Community. Genevieve H. Bleess, 90, of Blue Earth, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at New Ulm Medical Center. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Blue Earth, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Patton Funeral Home, Blue Earth. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m., and there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Friday. She is survived by daughters, Leone Nienhaus and husband Don of Winnebago, Elaine Collison and husband Tom of Denver, Colo., Bernadine Paul and husband Cyril of Maquoketa, Iowa, Kathryn Esser and husband Bill of Hector, Lois Hund and husband Chuck of LaCrescent, Irene Embacher and husband Dick of New Ulm, Monica David and husband Terry of Pilot Point, Texas, and Marie Nyberg and husband Rob of Crosby; sons, Edward and wife Linda of Denton, Texas, Donald and wife Audrey of Blue Earth, Fritz and wife Karen of Delavan, Ray and wife Bernie of Okabena, Maurice and wife Mary of Fairfax, Paul and fiance Ginger McKinney of Arlington, Texas, Tom and special friend Vicki Morgan of Albuquerque, N.M. and John and wife Mary of Wichita Falls, Texas; 55 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Florence Ginn and husband Robert of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Geraldine; four grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jeanne; and foster sister, Louise Linder. Memorials are preferred to Father Flanagan's Boy's Town. She was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Warsaw, Ill., to Henry and Victoria (Echle) Turnhoffer. She attended country school in Verona Township and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1927. She attended Mankato Commercial College, graduating with a degree in business. She worked at Max Ziegler Service Station, Blue Earth. She married Leo A. Bleess Feb. 22, 1933, in Blue Earth. After marriage, she worked at the White House cafe and Juba's Cafe in Blue Earth. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Winona Council of Catholic Women and St. Francis Circle. Olga Schroeder , 94, died Monday at Grandview Care Center in St. Peter. Services are 2 p.m. today at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery in rural Nicollet. Visitation will be noon until the time of the service at the church. (This is a change in visitation times.) Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet is handling arrangements. Hertha M. Grochow, 99, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Penn Township, McLeod County, followed by a luncheon, with burial in the Winthrop City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church. She is survived by her brother Theophil Schuft and wife Natalie of Glencoe; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; twin sons in infancy; brothers, Alvin, Erich, Hilmar and Bert Schuft; and sisters, Ella Hahn, Lilly Bussler, Erma Uecker and Lydia Asleben. She was born June 6, 1900, in Penn Township, McLeod County, to August and Minna (Sell) Schuft. She married Fred Grochow on Nov. 18, 1926. After marriage, they farmed in Bismarck and Penn townships. The couple retired and moved into Winthrop in August 1959. After Fred died July 31, 1975, she remained in Winthrop. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center July 2, 1996. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Penn Township, where she was active in Ladies Aid. Norman Lentz, 83, of Arlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Arlington Municipal Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial and full military honors in the City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Saturday. Edward Osberg, 90, of Rt. 3, New Ulm died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
