   Edward Osberg, 89, of Route 3 New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
   He is survived by his wife, Alice Osberg, of rural New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and James Steffl, of Morristown, Carol and James Kramer, of Park Rapids, Suzanne Anderson, of Roseau, and Dorothy and Averill Clark, of Plymouth; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Jr. and Bernell Osberg of Courtland, and Allan and Renee Osberg of rural New Ulm; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Blanche Osberg, of Sun City, Ariz.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Alice Osberg, and Kenneth and Leone Osberg; and a son-in-law, Bernie Anderson.
   He was born Jan. 25, 1910, in Winthrop to John and Amanda (Martinson) Osberg. He attended Winthrop Public School. He married Alice Wellner on April 15, 1934, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage in New Ulm. They farmed in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, until retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm and its Young at Heart Group.
   In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

   Goldie Leske, 95, of Buffalo Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo Lake.
   Visitation will be 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
   Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home.
   She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Ruona and Evan Cole, of California; grandchildren Murad Ruona, Timur Ruona, Sunoma Northern and Aija Waschke, of California, Mavis Conti, of New York, Elaine Beack of Texas, Eunice Hitzman, Doris Moritz, David Droivold, and Debbie Smith, of Minnesota, and Steve Slater and Sherry Slater, of Nevada; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Irma Sifferath, of Hector, and Harvey and Dorothy Sifferath, of Rochester.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rienie; daughters, Mavis Dottee (in infancy) and Violet Videll; grandsons. Larry and Wayne; great-granddaughter, Sarah; and brothers: Walter. William Arthur, Denny, Leonard, Marvin, and Leslie.
   She was born Feb. 25, 1904, in Chokio, to Bernard and Amelia Sifferath. She married Rienart Elmer Leske on Nov. 9, 1924 in Buffalo Lake. They farmed south of Buffalo Lake. After retiring from farming and moving to Buffalo Lake, she worked for Green Giant, Glencoe.

   John M. 'Jack' Lietzau, 96, of Cosmos, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Meeker County Memorial Hospital, Litchfield.
   Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Cosmos, with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Cosmos, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
   He is survived by daughter, Lois Eastman and husband Victor of rural Litchfield; sons, Delano and wife Yvonne and Charles and wife Twyla of Cosmos; daughter-in-law, Donna Lietzau of Litchfield; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harold and wife Jean of La Habra Heights, Calif.; sister-in-law, Pearl E. of Cosmos; and nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara; son, Levi; daughter-in-law, Janet; greatgrandchildren, Jason and Samantha Lietzau; brothers, Robert and another in infancy; sister, Jeanette Bemis; brother-in-law, Floyd and sister-in-law Frances.
   He was born July 15, 1903, in Hassen Valley Township, rural Biscay, to Albert and Emme (Kiecker) Lietzau. He grew up in the Cosmos area, and attended rural school. He married Clara Laura Hintz on June 5, 1924, in Cosmos. He was the first barber in Cosmos. He later entered the lumber and hardware business. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Cosmos. He served on the REA board for 28 years and was a member of the Independent Retail Lumber Dealers Association. He helped organize the school in Cosmos and the Cosmos Band. In 1949, he sponsored Meeker County's first Displaced persons family. He was honored as the 1989 Meeker County Outstanding Citizen.

   Kenneth E. Hemmingsen, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
   Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Sundown Lutheran Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Visitation will also continue for hour prior to the service at the church.
   He is survived by his wife, Ival Hemmingsen of Springfield; children and their spouses, Naomi and Loren Elliot of Springbrook, Wis., Marilyn and Jerry Bratsch of Rogers, Fae and Albert Jones of Blaine, Richard and Lee Hemmingsen of Shoreview, and Kenneth Jr. and Patricia Hemmingsen of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Deeg of Hinsdale, Ill.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ardis and Palmer Pederson; and brother-in-law, Earl Deeg.
   He was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Sundown Township, Redwood County, to H.G. and Lydia (Meyer) Hemmingsen. He farmed on the family homestead in Sundown Township. He married Ival Hanske on June 30, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. He was a lifetime member of Sundown Lutheran Church where he served on many church offices and also as a custodian for 30 years. He served on the local school board, town board, Redwood County Fair Board, and D.A.C. He was also a Redwood County Commissioner and member of the Redwood Mutual Insurance Board for 20 years and was a claims adjustor. He was also served as a 4-H leader.

   Herbert Wels, 83, of Route 2 Nicollet, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000 at the Grandview Care Center in St. Peter.
   Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, with burial in the church cemetery, rural Nicollet. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Nicollet American Legion Post 510.
   Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and one hour prior to the services at the church.
   He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margo and Wayne Jeske, of Minnetonka; sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Joyleen Wels, of Nicollet, son, Gerald Wels, of Nicollet and his fiancee, Roxann Rauschendorfer, of Mankato; six grandchildren, Eric Jeske, Michele Fitzner and her husband Chad, Nichole Wels, Benjamin Wels, Darren Wels, and Courtney Kranz; a brother, Harley Wels, of Nicollet; a brother-in-law, Gerhard Boeck, of Amboy; and by nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille Wels on Dec. 21, 1999; a grandson, Jonathon Wels; a sister, Verna Boeck; and by brothers, Otto Wels and Walter Wels.
   He was born June 12, 1916, in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to Martin and Meta (Lange) Wels. He attended parochial school and Nicollet Public School. From October 1942 to November 1945 he served as a corporal in the 202 Quartermaster Car Company in the European Theatre of the U. S. Army, serving in Rome, Italy, Southern France, Sicily, Algiers, Africa, and in Germany. After his military service, he returned to Nicollet and worked for L & S Motors before becoming a dairy farmer in Granby Township. On Sept. 27, 1946, he married Lucille Krohn at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. They retired from farming in the early 1980s. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the church council for six years and a member of the cemetery committee for six years. He was a member of the board of directors of the Nicollet Livestock Shipping Association for 33 years. He was a member of the board of director on the Nicollet Co-op Oil for 19 years, and a past member of the Nicollet American Legion Post 510 in Nicollet.

   Ruth G. Dirks, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Stillwater.
   Graveside services and burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery at a later date.
   She is survived by nieces and nephews and their families.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eleonore Dittbenner and Glorene Saylor; brothers, Esler Dirks and Emereld Dirks.
   She was born Nov. 18, 1909, in New Ulm to Conrad H. and Eleonora (Krienke) Dirks.
   She graduated from New Ulm Public School, Winona State Teachers College and received a master's degree in art education from the University of Minnesota. She taught 41 years in Minnesota schools including Lamberton, Winona State Teachers College, St. James, Stillwater and Como Park Jr. High in St. Paul. She was a member of the St. Paul Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

   Clarence Boeder, 89, of Gibbon, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000 at the Arlington Municipal Hospital in Arlington.
   Funeral arrangements are pending with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, Gibbon.
