Theresa Roiger, 91, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. She is survived by sons, Don and wife Joyce of Chaska, James of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Marie and husband Richard Koldborg of Burnsville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rudolph in 1980; brothers, Andrew, Joseph, George, Otto, John, Tony and Art; sisters, Mary, Kate, Clara, Amelia, Bertha and Veronica; and seven siblings who died in infancy or early childhood. She was born July 3, 1908, in Albin Township, to George and Theresa (Suess) Eckstein. She married Rudolph Herbert Roiger on Oct. 11, 1927 in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Springfield. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, where she was president of the Altar Society, director of juveniles in St. Monica Court and a member of St. Joan's mission group. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary, Third Order of St. Francis, American Legion Auxiliary and Senior Citizens of which she served as treasurer and president. She helped start Meals for Shut-ins. She was a driver for senior citizens and a cook at Springfield Community Hospital for 18 years. She retired in 1974. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Memorial Home, Springfield. Regina Mahal, 94, of Wabasso died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Mass of Christian Burial is 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and continues Friday one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today followed by a rosary. Regina is survived by her son, Mark Mahal of Wabasso; son-in-law, Wally Toltzman of New Ulm; four grandchildren, Kevin Toltzman, Patrick Toltzman, Tammy Malik and Michael Koerner; brother, Francis Kopel of Marvin, S.D.; and sisters, Leona Schafer of Renville, Alma Thornton of Rochester and Rosemary Ashton of Shakopee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Patricia Toltzman and Judy Koerner; brothers, George and Paul Kopel; and sisters, Bertha Kopel, Julia Pastoors and Rita Brown. She was born June 11, 1905, in Haverhill, Iowa, to Frank and Mary (Pille) Kopel. She moved with her family to South Dakota in 1906, then to the St. Cloud area in 1910 and later to the Avoca area. She married Joseph W. Mahal on Feb. 3, 1931, in Avoca . They lived in Wabasso. Joseph died Feb. 3, 1968. She worked as a cook in hotels, restaurants and cafes in the area for many years. She retired in 1968. She was a member of St. Anne's and C.C.W. Mary Mace, 78, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and will continue 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Mace of Morgan; sons, Barry and wife Diana of Crosby-Ironton, Shawn of Redwood Falls, Mahlon and wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Kelly, Shauna, Shannon, Chris, Mary, Mariah, Mackenzie and Marissa; and niece and nephew, Kathy and Mike Townsend. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bradley; sister, Anne; and brother James. Memorials are preferred to Redwood Falls Library, Redwood Falls Hospital, or District 637 Foundation. She was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Tyler Village, to James E. and Julia (Sullivan) Gilronan. She grew up on a farm in Lake Benton. She graduated from Lake Benton High School and attended Mankato State Teachers College. She married Jay N. Mace on April 10, 1943, in Mankato. During World War II she worked as a lab tech at Camp Walters, Texas. Before moving to Redwood Falls, she lived in Mankato, Windom and Belview. She worked in the lab at Redwood Falls Hospital. In Aug. 1966, she began working at Redwood Falls Clinic, became the lab technician and earned her MLT degree. She retired in 1992. After retirement she volunteered at Redwood Falls Hospital, Redwood Area Schools and Redwood Falls Library. She was a member of the Belview Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother. Edna Kirtz, 86, of Hector, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector, with burial in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and will continue for one hour before the service Friday at the church. She is survived by her husband, Dormand Kirtz of Hector; children, Sandra Kirtz-Bartels and her husband Louie of Murrieta, Calif., James Kirtz and his wife Katie of Winthrop, Judith O'Binger and her husband John of Seattle, Wash., Steven Kirtz and his wife Barb of Olivia, Kathleen Weller and her husband Ed of Barnum, Charles Kirtz of Hector, and Nancy Serbus and her husband Dean of Phoenix, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Ewer of Hector, and Florence Augeson and her husband Harold of Hector, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Raymond Fredrick, four brothers, and one sister. Edna Katherine Kirtz was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Louis and Wilhelmina (Meyer) Ruschmeyer. She grew up in Martinsburg Township and attended rural school. On June 30, 1943, she married Dormand Kirtz at St. John's Catholic Parsonage in Hector, The couple lived in the Hector area and farmed until 1962. They then moved into Hector. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran, Church and was active in the Lydia Circle. She was an adult leader in the Hectorville Hustlers 4-H Club. Violet Ahlness, 88, or rural Hanska, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Linden Lutheran Church, rural Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Firle Funeral Home, Hanksa, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
