   Vera Hagen, 74, of St. James, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at St. James Health Services
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.

   Raymond Mills, 77, of 1101 Summit Ave., New Ulm, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at his home.
   Arrangements are pending with Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm.

   Violet Sauer, 93, formerly of Route 3 New Ulm died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
   Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
   Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue 7:30- 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
   She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Ellie Sauer and Dale and Nancy Sauer all of Plymouth, Harlon and Joyce Sauer of Green Valley, Ariz., Ernie and Marlene Sauer of New Ulm, seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; sisters-in-law, Erna Sauer of New Ulm, and Nora Haber of Sleepy Eye; and by many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Ernst Sauer on April 20, 1972, a great grandchild, brothers Ed, George, Ernst and Earl; and sisters Bertha, Laura, Helen and Verna.
   She was born May 7, 1905 in Sherburn to Gustav and Hulda (Bork) Haber. She attended rural school in both Redwood and Brown counties. She married Ernst Sauer on Sept. 18, 1929 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They farmed in Brown and Nicollet County. In the early 1990s he moved to Sunset Apartments in New Ulm. S he became a resident of the nursing home in 1995. She was a Tupperware Dealer. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid.

   Selma Tietl, 85, of 1224 5th North in New Ulm died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
   Service are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.
   She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Arlan and Virginia Tietel of Woodbury, Robert and Cornelia Tietel of Searles, Charles and Reven Tietel of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Thomas Nelson of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Mike Tietel, Steve Tietel, Jon Nelson, Mitch Nelson, Ed Tietel, Joe Tietel, and Jolene Tietel; brothers Arnold and Melvin Bentdahl both of Mankato.
   She was preceded in death by husband Alfred in 1993; a granddaughter Sarah Emma Tietel; brothers Oscar, Adolph, Morton, James and Edgar Bentdahl.
   She was born March 28, 1913, to Olaf and Mattie (Hershaug) Bentdahl in Madelia. She graduated from Madelia High School, New Ulm Normal Teachers College, and Mankato State University. She taught country schools. She married Alfred Tietel on Sept. 1, 1938 in Riverdale Township, Watonwan County. They lived in New Ulm. She returned to teaching in the 1950s, and in 1977 she was selected as the New Ulm Teacher of the Year and was a nominee for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Brown County Historical Society. She was a Red Cross volunteer/ Gray Lady. She taught "55 ALIVE" classes, and she was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was a den leader for many years and was involved with many other organizations.

   Ethel A. Goor, 90 of Lewisville, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
   Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville, with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Madelia.
   Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Olson Funeral Home in Truman and one hour prior to services at the church.
   She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Lester Urban of St. James; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence and Delores Splinter of Truman, and Henry Splinter of Hewitt; and nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband in February 1964; son-in-law, Wayne Haycraft; sisters, Nellie Haedt and Edna Alves, and brother, Elmer Splinter.
   She was born May 31, 1908, in Mankato. She received her education there. She married Alfred C. "Snip" Goor on Aug. 13, 1926, in Madelia. They lived on near Lewisville until 1940 when they moved to town. She worked at several Lewsiville businesses including the Lewisville Hotel, Haycraft Grocery, Cup and Saucer Cafe and M. C. Bachmann Drug Store. She entered the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake on Nov. 20, 1998. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Lewisville Senior Citizens.

   Olga Schultz, 90, of Fairfax, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Fairfax Community Home.
   Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township, Renville County, with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County.
   Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
   She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey and Dorothy, of Mound, Howard of Minneapolis, and Harland and Carol of Champlin; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Woody Schermann of Brainerd; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand child; sisters, Hilder Henke of Fairfax and Myrt Baxter of California; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Mariam Sandgren of Missouri.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on Jan. 4, 1962; daughter, Jeanette on Feb. 26, 1954; and brothers, Leonard, Ernest, Algot and Andrew.
   She was born Apr. 13, 1908, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Oscar and Amelia (Olson) Sandgren. She attended rural school. She married Walter Schultz on Dec. 30, 1930, at Swedlanda Lutheran Church. They farmed for a short time before moving into Fairfax, where they lived for several years before moving to Minneapolis. After her husband died, she continued to live in Minneapolis until she returned to Fairfax. She lived at the Country View Estates before entering the Fairfax Community Home on Feb. 1, 1997. She was a member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church where she was active with W.E.L.C.A. She was also a former member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
