   James R. Tasler, 56, of 1315 N. Broadway, in New Ulm and formerly of Osseo, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in New Ulm.
    Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Osseo with burial in the Rushcreek Cemetery in Maple Grove.
   Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Osseo. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.
    He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Tasler of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Shellie and Andy Gebhard of Minneapolis; sons, Brian Tasler of Minneapolis, Aaron Tasler and his fiancee, Jae Johnson both of St. Paul; Joni Eilers of Edina; granddaughter, Ali Tasler of Edina; sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Douglas Frank of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brother-in-law, Frank Hughs of Anoka; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Virginia Loren of Grandy.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ivy Tasler; and sister, Judy Hughs.
   He was born Aug. 16, 1943, in Minneapolis, to John and Ivy (Evans) Tasler. He graduated from the Osseo High School in 1961. He married Roxanne Loren on April 23, 1966 in Anoka. They lived in Osseo for five years and then lived in Hanover for four years. In 1976 they moved to Pocahontas, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Big Red Restaurant and the Chief Motel for more than 15 years. They moved to New Ulm in 1993 when they bought the Colonial Inn.

   Louisa A. Mathiowetz, 95, of Leavenworth, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye.
   Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home today.
   She is survived by her children, Roman of St. Paul, Rosemary and husband James Rathman of Comfrey, Rita and husband Patrick Morgan of Elmore, and Reinhold and wife Connie of Marshall; daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Mathiowetz of Leavenworth and Alma Mathiowetz of New Ulm; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin in 1967; sons, Rudolph in 1955 and Richard in 1999; grandchildren, Leon, Jeremy and Ann; and brothers and sisters, Anthony Moldan, Lawrence Moldan, Engelbert Moldan, Catherine Goblirsch, Clara Windschitl, Ida Mathiowetz, Anna Windschitl and John Moldan.
   She was born Dec. 21, 1904, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to John and Louisa (Biel) Moldan. She attended Mulligan Township School and St. Mary's School, Sleepy Eye. After graduation, she worked on the family farm. She married Martin Mathiowetz on Jan. 29, 1934, in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Leavenworth, where they operated several businesses, including a gas station, tavern and saw mill. She was co-founder of Mathiowetz Construction Co. and worked as secretary and bookkeeper until the 1960s. She lived in Leavenworth until 1988, when she moved to Divine Providence. She was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs and the Christian Mothers.

   Bernard 'Ben' O. Braulick, 98, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.

   Sylvester A. Menk , 82, of Mankato, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 at Mankato House Health Care Facility.
   Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Westbrook.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Almlie Funeral Home, Westbrook and one hour before services at the church, Burial is at Sanborn Cemetery.
   He is survived by son, Roger and wife Jacque of North Mankato; brothers, Orlando Menk of Canby, James and wife Ermalee Menk of Bella Vista, Ark.; grandchildren, Rhonda and husband Jim Melby of Minnetonka, Brad Menk of Mankato, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and brother and sister-in-laws.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one infant brother, one brother and two sisters.
   He was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Lamberton, Redwood County, to Arthur John and Rose Dora (Wills) Menk. He attended school in Lamberton and Sanborn. On Oct. 21, 1936, he married Irene L. Menk at Sanborn. They moved to Currie, where he owned a shoe and harness repair shop and later added a hardware store. In 1958 they moved to Westbrook and operated a hardware store, shoe repair and upholstery shop. While in Currie and Westbrook, he served as mayor and city councilor. He was director of the Westbrook Light Plan. In 1993 they moved to North Mankato Koeppen Gardens and lived there until August of 1997 when Irene became ill and they moved to Mankato House Health Care Facility. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Westbrook.
   

   Remington Bergum, infant son of Jenny Shafer and Andrew Bergum of Buffalo Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000.
   Services are 3:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bird Island, with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

   Frances Hale, 111, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Divine Providence Home, Sleepy Eye.
   Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Divine Providence Home, with burial in Three Rivers, Mich., at a later date.
   Visitation is one half hour prior to services at Divine Providence.
   Firle Funeral Home, New Home, is handling arrangements.
   She is survived by her daughter, May Ann Kotz of Three Rivers, Mich.; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers; one sister; and son-in-law Donald Kotz.
   She was born Aug. 21, 1888, in Sleepy Eye, to William and Anna (Bratschner) Steinke. She married Alvin Hale on March 10, 1913, in Portland, Ore. They moved to Minneapolis, where she was an accompanying pianist with J. Jellison Studios in the 1940s and 1950s. She taught piano lessons in her home. Following her husband's death in 1955 she moved to an assisted living facility in St. Paul, and later returned to Sleepy Eye to live near her brother in Divine Providence.
