   Vera Mae Hagen, 74 of St. James died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999 at St. James Health Center.
   Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in St. James.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to the service at the church.
   She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dale C. Anderson of St. James; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Nancy Hagen of Andover; eight grandchildren; brother-in-law, Roger Solis of Munster, Ind.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd in 1983; and sister Hazel Solis.
   She was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Mountain Lake to Jacob and Verna (Kline) Hiebert. She grew up in Mountain Lake and graduated from high school there. She moved to St. James and worked for S-T Industries for 20 years. She married Lloyd Hagen on April 9, 1949 in Mountain Lake. She worked as a secretary for St. James Public Schools for 33 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of VFW Post 1914 Auxiliary and served as financial secretary. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 192 and was its treasurer. She was a timekeeper for high school sporting events.

   Raymond E. Mills, 77, 1101 Summit Ave., New Ulm, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at his home.
    Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Full military honors will be conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations at the soldier's rest section of the City Cemetery.
    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm and also one hour prior to services at the church.
   He is survived by wife, Anna of New Ulm; sons, Spencer Mills of Flagstaff, Ariz.; daughters, Linda Harris and husband Ivan of Quesnel, B.C., Canada, Sandra Bauer and husband Tom of New Ulm; grandchildren, Stacy and Melissa Bauer, Justin and Sarah Barnes; great-granddaughter Ilia Bauer-Jones; brothers, Merle Mills of Bell Vista, Ariz., Marion Mills of Columbus, Ga.; sister, Marge Devine of Sioux City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by sons, Randall and Calvin; and sister Mildred.
   He was born Aug. 1, 1921 to Clarence and Belle (Galbraith) Mills in Woodbury County, Iowa. He graduated in 1938 from Climbing Hill High School. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Sioux City. He married Anna Anders on March 7, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa.. He worked for Kraft Foods for 38 years, including 29 years in the New Ulm plant. He was a supervisor for Kraft. He retired in 1984. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm, where he held several offices and served on many boards. He was a member and officeholder of the Kraft Retirees. He was a member of the American Legion. He was recently inducted into the New Ulm Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

   Selma Tabbert, 74, of Gibbon died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Glencoe Health Care Center in Glencoe.
   Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

   Albert Zitzman, 88, of 917 N. Jefferson in New Ulm died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999 at Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
   Arrangements are pending with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

   Mattie A. Frye, 97 of Mankato, formerly of Truman, died Jan. 27, 1999, at Hillcrest Care Center in Mankato.
   Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel in Truman, with burial following in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Truman. Visitation is 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
   She is survived by sisters-in-law, Jean Meixell of Princeton, Esther Frye of Vernon Center, and Selma Frye of Truman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
   She was born Jan. 19, 1902 at Willow Creek Township, Blue Earth Co. She attended school in Truman after moving there with her family in 1907. On August 14, 1927 she married Frank L. Frye in Truman. They lived in Garden City, Vernon Center, Truman and later Mankato. While living in Mankato, the couple owned and operated Frye's Bait Service until their retirement in March of 1972. Frank died on Aug. 30, 1972. She entered the Hillcrest Health Care Center on May 13, 1994. She was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman, and she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato.

   Selma Tietel , 85, of 1224 5th North in New Ulm died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
   Service are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.
   She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Arlan and Virginia Tietel of Woodbury, Robert and Cornelia Tietel of Searles, Charles and Reven Tietel of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Thomas Nelson of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Mike Tietel, Steve Tietel, Jon Nelson, Mitch Nelson, Ed Tietel, Joe Tietel, and Jolene Tietel; brothers Arnold and Melvin Bentdahl both of Mankato.
   She was preceded in death by husband Alfred in 1993; a granddaughter Sarah Emma Tietel; brothers Oscar, Adolph, Morton, James and Edgar Bentdahl.
   She was born March 28, 1913, to Olaf and Mattie (Hershaug) Bentdahl in Madelia. She graduated from Madelia High School, New Ulm Normal Teachers College, and Mankato State University. She taught country schools. She married Alfred Tietel on Sept. 1, 1938 in Riverdale Township, Watonwan County. They lived in New Ulm. She returned to teaching in the 1950s, and in 1977 she was selected as the New Ulm Teacher of the Year and was a nominee for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Brown County Historical Society. She was a Red Cross volunteer/ Gray Lady. She taught "55 ALIVE" classes, and she was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was a den leader for many years and was involved with many other organizations.
