Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Gunhild (Gunny) H. Johnson, 88, formerly of Walnut Grove died Wednesday ,Feb. 3, 1999 at Valley View Manor in Lamberton from cancer. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be Friday at the Jacobson Funeral Home in Walnut Grove from 4 -8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. She is survived by daughters, Elaine Seidl of Sleepy Eye, Pearl Van De Weile of Walnut Grove, Judy Dagner of Lamberton; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Signe and husband George Ziemke of Tracy; sisters-in-law, Arlene Meld of Tamarack and Ida Johnson of Walnut Grove; and one brother-in-law Delmar Coulter of Walnut Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965 and two daughters, Connie and Darlene; three sons, Allan, Eddy and an infant son August; two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Meld and one sister, Virginia Coulter. She was born June 12, 1911, to Ernest and Teckla (Anerson) Meld in Chicago, Ill. She married August Johnson on Aug. 3, 1929. The couple farmed near Iona, Tracy and Walnut Grove. In 1968 she moved to Walnut Grove, where she cooked at a restaurant and later worked at a cheese plant. In 1992 she moved to the Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
