Norbert J. Berberich, 92 ,formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. The clergy will be Father Dennis Labat. Interment will be at Springfield City Cemetery Visitation will be at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. E-mail condolences may be sent via www.sturmfh.com. Norbert J. Berberich was born Oct. 3, 1911 in Clements, the son of Francis J. and Margaret (Stitz) Berberich. On July 19, 1937 he married DeLoris Isaackson in Springfield. The couple made their home in Springfield in the 1940's and had lived in Moorhead, Vermillion, S.D., New Prague, Alexandria, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Montgomery, Minnetonka, and most recently in Pylmouth. Norbert had owned and operated Ben Franklin Stores in Vermillion and New Prague and was a barber for 30 years. He was a Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus in Prescott Valley, Ariz., Prescott, Ariz., Alexandria, and Springfield, and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, and golf. He is survived by his children, Karen and husband Clarence Kotte of Germantown, TN, Bruce and wife Leta Berberich of Tucson Ariz., and Brian and wife Sharon Berberich of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Kristopher and wife Renee Kotte, Kimbertly Kotte, Paula Berberich, Chad and wife Lisa Berberich, and Jonas and wife Tammy Berberich; great grandchildren, Connor Kotte, Jack Kotte, Benjamin Kotte, Stuart Berberich, John Robert Berberich, Dylan Berberich, Alexandria Berberich, Zachary Berberich, Aaron Berberich, Samuel Berberich, Kylie Berberich, Braydan Berberich, and Noah Berberich; and a sister , Adeline Flaig. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, DeLoris Berberich; and sisters, Mary Ann Maurer and Avenell Boelke. Virginia L. Bulau, age 75, of Winthrop, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Hutchinson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, in Winthrop. Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery. Virginia Lee (Hagg) Bulau was born March 30, 1928, in Cornish Twp., Sibley Co. She was the daughter of Hilding and Marion (Hall) Hagg. Virginia graduated from Winthrop High School and continued her education at beauty school. Virginia married Chester Bulau on June 28, 1952, in Winthrop. After their marriage, the couple moved to Sleepy Eye, for two years before returning to Winthrop. Virginia owned and operated a beauty shop out of her home in Winthrop and was still actively working. She was a member of the Winthrop Legion Auxiliary. Virginia was very devoted to her mother. She also enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, collecting stamps, pencils and seashells, lapidary (working with rocks), crocheting, wood-working, gardening, and bowling. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester on August 15, 1999, and other relatives. Survivors include her brother-in-law, Edgar Bulau and his wife, Maxine of Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Inez Pagel of Winthrop, and JoAnn Wolter of Arlington, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rachel "Peggy" Castle, 76, of New Ulm died Friday, February 6, 2004 at the St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of service at the funeral home. Rachel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Richard White of Apple Valley, and Vivian and Steven Hindermann of Waconia; a son, Allan Castle of Little Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; sisters, Iona Anderson of St. Paul, Edith Tschample of Long Prairie, and Lucille Vanderwerf of St. Cloud; brothers and sisters-in-law, Syril and Betty Sizer of Duluth and George and Shirley Sizer of Backus. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar "Red" Castle on February 7, 1999; brothers, William, Glenn, and Donald Sizer; and a sister, Irene Collins. Rachel was born on May 31, 1927 in Long Prairie to Lucas and Angela (Pasch) Sizer. On March 18, 1949, she married Edgar Castle in Gaylord. Rachel was a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn, a driver for the New Ulm Journal for many years, and a waitress at Beyer's Steakhouse and Ida's cafe. She was also a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. June Matter, 66, of Springfield died Saturday, Feb. 7 at the New Ulm Medical Center Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at St. Raphael's Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. A Parish Prayer Service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A CCW Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. She is survived by husband, Norbert of Springfield; children, Kay Baumann of Onalaska, Wis., Fay Claeys of Seffner, Fla., Mark Matter of Springfield, Paul Matter of Springfield, Amy Matter-Hines of Brainerd, Scott Matter of Sanborn, Tina Matter of Glenwood, and Jason Matter of Milliken, Colo; five grandchildren; and a sister - Joyce Pieske of Alberta. June Marie Matter was born June 17, 1937 in Stately Township, Brown County, the daughter of Fred and Clowie (Jenkins) Schnobrich. Donna M. Sherman, 66 of Franklin, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the Franklin Healthcare Center. Arrangements are pending at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
