   Lucy V. Schlumpberger, 95, a resident of Pierz Villa in Pierz, died Saturday, Feb. l7, 2001, at her home.
   Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with burial in New Ulm on Thursday.
   Visitation is one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
   Arrangements are with the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz.
   She is survived by daughter, Mary Elizabeth Forte and husband, Donald, of Hillman; son, John Alfred Schlumpberger and wife, Marilyn, of Rochester; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Leander in June 1987; and sister, Evelyn Hayek.
   She was born April 11, 1905, in New Ulm to Joseph and Frances (Brix) Mueller. She grew up in the New Ulm area where she graduated from high school. She worked as a secretary at State Bond & Mortgage Company. She married Leander Schlumpberger on Sept. 28, 1926, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm and then moved to various towns before she became a resident of St. Mary's Villa in Pierz in April 1987. She was a singer and musician who worked as a substitute piano player for the Whoppee John and the 6 Fat Dutchmen bands. She also played with various musical groups in towns where she lived, and she sang with German groups. She was a member of Holy Family Circle 824 Daughters of Isabella in Waconia and was past president of the Ladies of Columbus in St. Paul
   

   Alice Popken, 85, of Sleepy Eye died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye.
   Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-11 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
   She is survived by her sons, Robert of Mendota Heights, James and wife, Karen, of Big Sky, Mont., Thomas of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Marri and husband, Thomas Whittet of New Ulm; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Richard of Glencoe, Ronald of Austin; sisters, Louella Roddy of Long Beach, Calif., Elaine Blackman of East Grand Forks, Lois Ann Kovacovich of Danville, Calif.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer; son, William; brother, Lawrence; sisters, Loretta, JoAnn and Marcella.
   She was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Bingham Lake, to Lawrence and Alice (Savage) Hayes. She grew up on the family farm near Comfrey. She graduated from Comfrey High School. She attended Mankato State Teachers College. She taught in Mapleton, Darfur and rural Sleepy Eye. She married Elmer Popken on Aug. 21, 1940, in Comfrey. They purchased a furniture store in Sleepy Eye and operated it until his death. She volunteered for the hospital auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Christian Women and Dancing Grandmothers. She was also elected to the Sleepy Eye Bowling Hall of Fame.

   Dean Syverson, 92, of Mountain Lake, formerly of Butterfield and rural Odin, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Eventide Home, Mountain Lake.
   Services are 2 p.m. today at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, with burial with full military honors by the Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9607 of Butterfield, in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Odin.
   Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church today.
   Arrangements are handled by Kramer Family Funeral Home, Trimont.
   He is survived by his nephew, Arthur Syverson and wife, Cleone, of rural Odin; niece Dorothy Satre and husband, Roy of Rochester; and grand nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, Syver, Henry and Albert Syverson; and sister, Margaret Syverson.
   He was born July 8, 1908, in Butterfield, to Amund and Ingeborg (Bolstad) Syverson. He attended District 93 rural school in Martin County and graduated from St. James High School in 1926. He moved to Minneapolis with his mother and sister and was employed at King Midas Flour Mills until he entered the U.S. Navy in January 1942. He served in the United States and the South Pacific until his honorable discharge in 1945. After World War II, he moved to Massachusetts and then to Connecticut, where he was employed as a sales person until his retirement at age 75. In 1997, he moved to Eventide Home in Mountain Lake. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin. He was a member of the Masons and Shriner Lodges.

   Norman 'Pete' Radel, 79, of Donnellson, Iowa, formerly of the Redwood Falls area, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.
   Services are 11 a.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Willow Lake Township.
   Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
   He is survived by his fiance, Barbara Hardin of Donnellson, Iowa; stepmother, Marie Radel of St. Cloud; sisters and brothers-in-law, Orloene and Donald Thom of North Mankato, Everline and Raymond Volk of St. Cloud, Norma and Curtis Krueger of Redwood Falls and Eunice and James Gruendemann of Brainerd; stepchildren, Linda Ohnoutka of Maryland, James and Cindy Hardin of West Point, Iowa, Ron and Gina Hardin of Denmark, Iowa, and Russell and Polly Hardin of Donnellson, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilbert, Ordell and Robert; and sisters, Verna and Lynette.
   The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Lake Township.
   He was born Feb. 15, 1922, on the family farm in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to August and Olga (Neumann) Radel. He attended country school at District 67. He worked with his father on the farm. On Nov. 28, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army, working special duty as an M.P. He was discharged on Feb. 5, 1946. He returned to Redwood County and began farming, later moving to the Johnson and Morris areas to continue his occupation. In the early 1970s he moved to Albert Lea. In 1985 he retired and moved to Donnellson, Iowa. He had been a member of the sportsman's Club at Chokio.

   Abigale Peterson, 5, daughter of Shannon and Duane Peterson of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center Hospital.
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
