Daniel 'Foghorn' Ludewig, 66, of 2201 N. Broadway, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 at New Ulm Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth with burial in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organization. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. A combined rosary by the St. Mary's Knights of Columbus Council 3134 of Sleepy Eye and Holy Family Catholic Aid Society of Leavenworth will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ludewig of New Ulm; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Marcy Gulden, Darwin and Diane Gieseke, Mrs. Cryrilla Portner, Leander and Sandy Gulden, and Milton Gulden, all of New Ulm, Matthew and Coletta Gulden of rural New Ulm, Robert and Mercedes Pelzel of Sleepy Eye and Roland and LaVon Bode of Walker; aunts and uncle; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was born Feb. 1, 1934, in New Ulm to Nicholas and Cecelia (Rothmeier) Ludewig. He attended school in Leavenworth and graduated in 1952 from St. Mary's Catholic School in Sleepy Eye. He married Carol Gulden on Sept. 3, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed the family farm in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, until 1967 when they moved to New Ulm. He worked for Mathiowetz Construction for 25 years as a bulldozer operator. He was currently employed by R&G Construction in Marshall. He was nominated this year for the Bowling Hall of Fame in New Ulm. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, St. Mary's Knights of Columbus Council 3134 in Sleepy Eye, Holy Family Catholic Aid Council in Leavenworth, Seifert-Bianchi American Post 132 in New Ulm and Albert Nagel Post 1648 VFW in New Ulm. Laura D. Weith, 91, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Hutchinson Community Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with burial in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. She was born on June 18, 1908, in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, to Henry and Emma (Otto) Duesterhoeft. At age 7, she moved with her family to a farm in Meeker County. She attended rural school. She is survived by her sister, Norma Duesterhoeft of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Ila Duesterhoeft of Faribault; n nieces; nephews; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil Duesterhoeft in 1970; brothers, David Duesterhoeft and Ray Duesterhoeft. She married Emil Weith on On June 12, 1932, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township. They farmed in Boon Lake Township, Renville County. In 1947, they moved to Hutchinson. Marion E. Brau, 83, of Arlington, died Sunday. Feb. 20, 2000 at Waconia Good Samaritan Center. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Arlington, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Mike Noack of Arlington, and Peg and Mark Backes of Chaska; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Kathy Brau of Faribault, and Ray and Roxana Merz Brau of Eden Prairie; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Hallie A. Christensen, 87, of Trimont, formerly of Madelia and rural St. James, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Trimont Health Care Center. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, with burial at 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Madelia. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, and at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. She is survived by her husband, Edward of Trimont; son James and Betty, of Westminster, Colo.; daughter, Linda and Kevin Fett of Trimont; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas; brothers, Robert and James Peters; an infant brother; and a a sister, Mary Ellen. She was born April 2, 1912, in Avard, Okla., to George and Ella (Hosman) Peters. She attended country school in Oklahoma and graduated from Alva Okla., High School and Northwest State Teachers College in Alva. She married Edward Christensen on Dec. 9, 1945, at Temple, Texas. They moved to a farm southwest of St. James. She was a home economics teacher at Truman Public Schools. They later moved to Madelia and operated Boom's Drive Inn. She helped start Madelia Senior Citizens meals. Vincent O. Mielke, 79, of Springfield, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with burial in North Star E.U.B. Cemetery, Springfield. Full military honors will be conducted by John Watson American Legion Post, Springfield. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield; and continue one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; sons, Sherman and wife Sandy of Ham Lake, and Gene and wife Marlene of Cross Lake; daughter , Janet and husband Larry Dammann of Rosemount; step-sons, Robert and wife Lenore Menk of North Mankato and Ronald and wife JoAnn Menk of Hinckley; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, the Rev. Don and wife Pat of St. Cloud, Herbert and wife Sherry of Woodbury, and Alvin and wife Gladys of Loveland, Colo.; and sisters, Gertrude and husband Robert Glimsdahl of Tucson, Ariz. and Mildred Lindstrand of St. Peter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine; daughter, Rosalie; and sister, Beatrice Mullenbach. He was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Stately Township, Brown County, to Benjamin and Mary (Kersten) Mielke. He attended country school. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945, returning to Springfield to work with Vigorena Feeds as a stationary engineer for 40 years. Following retirement in 1986, he worked at Cottonwood River Vocational Center as a maintenance man for 11 years, and at Hayden Furniture, delivering furniture. He married Catherine Meyer in 1941 in Slayton and later married Harriet Menk on July 27, 1974 in Springfield. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Men of Mission, served on the church council for eight years. He was an active member of John Watson American Legion Post.
