   Rose Battig , 97, of Longmont, Colo., formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the Life Care Center in Longmont.
   Funeral arrangements are pending with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

   Ruth Clyne , 80, of 413 5th North Street in New Ulm, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
   Funeral arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

   Andrew Mathiowetz , 84, of Morgan, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
   Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday with a 5:30 p.m. combined rosary and 7 p.m. parish prayer service at the church and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
   He is survived by his wife Veronica of Morgan; children, James Mathiowetz, Myron Mathiowetz and David Mathiowetz, all of Morgan, Diane Nelson of Lakeville, Al Mathiowetz of Mounds View, Virgil Mathiowetz of New Brighton, Virginia Nikolai of Madison, Sharon Erickson of Le Sueur, Loraine Roger of Minneapolis, Mark Mathiowetz of Lakeville, Margaret Stoterau of St. Cloud and Melanie Mathiowetz of St. Louis Park; 29 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Anna Zinniel of Winnebago; and brothers, Martin of Redwood Falls and Lawrence of Richland, Wash.
   He was born May 31, 1919, in Eden Township, Brown County, Minnesota to Frank G. and Margaretha (Rauch) Mathiowetz.

   Mathew L. Turbes , 98, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
   Services will be held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10:30 a.m. The clergy will be Father Dennis Labat. Interment will be at the St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery in Springfield.

   Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield on Friday, Feb. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and a men's rosary on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael's Catholic Church.
   Mathew Louis Turbes was born Oct. 25, 1905, in Brookville Township, the son of Hubert and Mary (Grausam) Turbes. He attended country school in Brookville Township. On Oct. 26, 1932, he married Eleanor Lang in Springfield. Mathew was a long-time resident of the Springfield area. The couple farmed in Stately Township for 40 years and later moved into Springfield in 1973. In 1994 they moved to Lake Villa Marie Apartments in Sleepy Eye and in April of 2003 moved to Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan. Mathew was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a past member of the Springfield Senior Citizens. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and visiting with people. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family of which they have many fond memories.
   He is survived by his wife Eleanor S. Turbes of Gil-Mor Manor; daughter Angela and husband Leander Rosenhammer of Mankato; son Glen and wife Kathy Turbes of Willmar; grandchildren, Cheryl and husband Fritz Bredenbeck of Edina, Brian Rosenhammer and fiancee Kathy White of Richfield, and Deb and husband Joe Jensen of Elk River; brothers, Sylvester and wife Myrtle Turbes of Sleepy Eye, Victor and wife Doris Turbes of Maple Plain, and James and wife Cyrilla Turbes of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Gladys Lang of Springfield, Mary Turbes of Sleepy Eye and Annabelle Turbes of Redwood Falls; and by many nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Leo, Edward, Florian, George, and Raymond; and a sister Loretta Wenisch.

   Harland Walter , 85, formerly of Lafayette, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Augustana Nursing Home in Hastings.
