   August W. Steinberg, 86, of 2526 S. Bridge St. No. 76 in New Ulm died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999 at New Ulm Medical Center.
   Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with the burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church.
   He is survived by his wife, Neota Steinberg of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Barbara Steinberg of New Ulm; daughter, Karen Hull of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Michael Steinberg of Boise, Idaho, Michelle Steinberg of Glendale, Ariz., James Steinberg and Janette Steinberg both of Minneapolis; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Roman Burginger of Santa Maria, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Ella Steinberg of St. Peter, and Gerhardt and Marian Steinberg of Standbough, Mich.
   He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Arthur, and Alfred Steinberg; sister, Irene Steinbring; son, James Steinberg; and a daughter, Lynn Kay Steinberg.
   He was born on Feb. 18, 1913, in Bertha, Minn., to Emil and Caroline (Rosenberg) Steinberg. He graduated from Sanborn High School in 1931 and attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He married Neota Waterman on Oct. 1, 1935, at Zion's Lutheran Church in Sanborn. They owned and operated a number of bakeries, including one in Henderson and another in Glencoe, where they lived for nearly 10 years. They moved to St. Cloud for another four years until moving to New Ulm. They ran the Weneeda Bakery in New Ulm until retiring in 1970. After retiring they moved to Manuella Lake and lived there until returning to New Ulm in 1980. He was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

   Clifford W. Marsden, 86, of St. James, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
   Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 2, at First Presbyterian Church in St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, and one hour prior to services at the church.There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
   He is survived by his wife, Florence; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gayle "Johnny" and Rose of Redwood City, Calif., and Loren and Millie of St. James; and nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas; brothers, Clinton and Bill; and a sister, Elinor.
   He was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Lewisville, to William T. and Nettie Mae (Cookman) Marsden. He was raised in Madelia where he attended District 25 school. He worked for his grandfather in his oil and service station. He married Florence Rice on Jul. 22, 1932 in Madelia. The couple lived in rural Madelia where he worked for Northern States Power as a lineman and farmed with his father-in-law. The couple later purchased a farm in Rosendale Township, Watonwan County, which he farmed until retiring into St. James in the early 1980s. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in St. James where he was instrumental in the building of the current church and served as elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Libanus Masonic Lodge 96, Order of the Eastern Star and a Zurah Temple Shriner.

   Duane Kulberg, 67, of Hector, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999 at Olivia Health Care Center.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township, with burial at the Osceola Church of Hope Cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to services in the church. Cash memorials will be donated to the Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease Research.
   He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Diana of Cosmos, Keith and Carol of Olean, Mo., and Lyle of Hector; daughters and sons-in-law, Lorri and Dell Kempton of Chandler, Ariz., and Beth and Pat Duyck of Vacaville, Calif.; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, two great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Ray Jensen of Hopkins, Beverly and Vernon Peterson of Tulsa, Okla., Carol and Ronald Ranzau of Liberty, Mo., and Doris and Donald Hillman of Hector; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence of Hector, Clarence and Loretta of Hutchinson, Walter and Mary of Detroit Lakes, Vern and Arlys of Delano; and nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Lorraine, and nephew, Randall.
   He was born Jul. 26, 1931in Palmyra Township, to Albert and Anna Florence (Lindquist) Kulberg. He grew up in the Hector area where he attended District 113 rural school. He farmed in Osceola Township and also did carpentry work. He served on the board of directors for the McLeod Co-op Power Association and the Osceola Church of Hope Council. He was a volunteer driver for Renville County Social Services.

   Mabel I. Burtness, 92, of Mankato, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital.
   Services are 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial in the St. Olaf Cemetery in New Richmond.
   Visitation will one and a half hours before services at the church. Lankamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
   She is survived by her nieces, LaJune Mock of Mankato, Hazel Schonrock of New Ulm and Helen Gaswell of Waseca; nephews, Lawrence Polinski of Pueblo West, Colo., Ralph Schwanke of Claremont and Sylvester Hoffmann of Preston; a brother-in-law, Ruben Burtness of New Richmond; many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and three sisters.
   She was born Oct. 26, 1906 in Klossner to Gustov and Ida (Schreyer) Schwarke. She attended school in St. Clair and graduated from nurses training at the St. Peter State Hospital on May 27, 1926. She worked as a nurse in Willmar, Waseca and Stillwater. She married Oscar H. Burtness on Jun. 9, 1933 in Owatonna. She was a waitress at the Owatonna Hotel for five years. They moved to Mankato in 1946. She worked at Arnolds Bell Coffee Shop and later at States Food Service for many years. She retired in 1977. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Dorcas Society, Royal Neighbors, and she volunteered for the Red Cross.

   Elfrieda Niemann, 88, of 100 S. Franklin St., New Ulm, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
   Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at New Ulm City Cemetery.
   Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ. Firle Funeral Home is handling the arrangement.

   Herbert Buerkle, 97, of Gaylord, died Sunday, Feb 28, 1999, at Glencoe Area Health Center in Glencoe.
   Arrangements are pending with Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord.

   Mary Burdick, 93, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center, Lafayette.
