Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. She is survived by her nephew, Glenn Fritsche of New Ulm; several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her husband, Willard in 1987; sisters, Bertha and Irene; brothers, Frank, Leslie, Kurt, and Hilton. She was born on July 10, 1909 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Emil H. and Elizabeth (Meyer) Fritsche. She attended District #7 Country School in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. On February 8, 1939 she married Willard R. Rieke at the St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage in New Ulm. After marriage they lived near Franklin for several years before moving to a farm in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. They farmed there for three years before moving to New Ulm. While living in New Ulm she worked for the New Ulm Laundry in New Ulm until retirement. In April of 1997 she became a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm until moving to the Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan in November, 1998. She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Marilyn Knudson, 67, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. There will be a parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday. She is survived by daughters, Ann Marie Lay and husband Harvey of Sauk Rapids, Kathy Allex and husband Steve of Shoreview, Lynn Hasty and husband Rich of Plymouth, and Laurie Nelson and husband Ryan of Dassel; eight grandchildren; brothers, Arden Trandahl and wife Sylvia of Spearfish, S.D. and Ed Trandahl and wife Sandy of Omaha, Neb.; sisters, Joann Steffl and husband Charlie of Belview, Yvonne Trandahl of Redwood Falls, Patricia Szarke and husband Jim of Perham and Mary Kuehn and husband Marlin of Eden Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; and two sons, who died in infancy. She was born June 5, 1931 in Marshall to Joseph and Ann (Neuman) Trandahl of Wabasso. She married Fred Knudson on February 20, 1950 in Wabasso. They lived in Bechyn until 1961, when they moved to Redwood Falls. Fred died September 9, 1992. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. Marvin Rhodes, 83, of Lafayette died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the Redwood Falls Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte with burial in the Bernadotte Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and will continue from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. on Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church. He is survived by his wife Marie Rhodes of Lafayette; sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Fran Rhodes of Las Vegas, Nev., Jon and Carol Rhodes of Tokyo, Japan and Harmony; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marge Rhodes of Spirt Lake, Iowa. He was preceded in death by brother Ray; sisters Sylvia, Vida, and Hilda. He was born April 15, 1915 in Eagle Bend, Minnesota to Nick and Alice (Yahnke) Rhodes. He married Marie Kuehl on June 16, 1973 at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte. He had farmed for 30 years near Lafayette before purchasing the Lafayette Bowling Alley in Lafayette which he operated for ten years. He was a member of the Bernadotte Lutheran Church and the farmers union. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Alzheimer's Research, the Bernadotte Lutheran Church, or to the donors choice. Freida Gertrude Herbeck, 97, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Senior Haven, Canby. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home, Echo, with burial in New Ulm Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She is survived by son, Richard and wife Ursula, of Canby; daughter, LaVonne Lange, of Wood Lake; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Henry in 1978; siblings, Arnold Gehrke, William, Rudolph, Edward, August, Emil, Otto, Margaret Werner, Bertha Radloff and Minnie Moll. She was born May 30, 1901 in Milford Township, Brown County to August and Wilhemina (Gehrke) Vogel. She attended Milford Township Country School. After graduation, she worked for the Stark Brothers Produce Co. She married Henry Herbeck on May 4, 1926 in New Ulm. They farmed in New Ulm, St. George, Redwood Falls and Delhi. After Henry's death, she remained on the farm until 1985, when she moved to Wood Lake. She resided at Senior Haven in Canby since March 1998. Rangvold Groff, 92, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Clements, with burial in the church cemetery. There will be a Parish prayer service 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a Catholic Aid Rosary at Sturm Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4-8:30 p.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield and 9-10:30 Tuesday at the church. He is survived by daughters, Shirley and husband Bennett Juenemann of Sanborn, Angeline and husband Anthony Kidrowski of Pennock; sons, Sheldon and wife Sharon, or La Paz, Bolivia and Loren and special friend Darla Fisel of Springfield; 29 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Oliver of Tracy; sisters, Gunda Hansen, of Wisconsin, Christine Nelson, of Elbow Lake and Ann Manning, of California. He was preceded in death by wife Margaret in 1987; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Groff; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Olga Pederson and Mabel Nelson; brothers, Chris, Halvor, Nels, Albert and Milton. He was born Sept. 5, 1906 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Ole and Mary (Skow) Groff. He married Margaret Prom on Sep. 5, 1934 in Springfield. He farmed northwest of Springfield in Sundown Township. He moved to St. John's Lutheran Home in 1991. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements and St. Thomas Catholic Aid. Mabel Panitzke, 89, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Center, Redwood Falls. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in the city cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. She is survived by sons, Gilbert and wife Treonne of Redwood Falls, Lloyd and wife Loretta of Redwood Falls, Leroy and wife Rosemary of Belview, Donald and wife Judy of Sauk Centre, Dennis and wife Lois of Redwood Falls; daughters, Doris Valentin and husband Walter, of Fairfax and Darlene Dallman and husband Loren, of Redwood Falls; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Reinhold Zubke and wife Mabel, of Waubay, S.D., Walter Zubke and wife Irene of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters, Emma Guderian of Waubay, Elsie Bartelt of Waubay and Laura Newman, of Porterville, Calif. She was born March 11, 1910 in Day County, S.D., to Herman and Ida (Bundrock) Zubke. She grew up on a farm in Waubay, where she attended country schools. She married Herman Panitzke on October 28, 1931 in Waubay. They farmed in Three Lakes Township, Vesta and Redwood Falls. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls and was a member of the Ladies Society. Elsie Margaret Newman, 86, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Springfield Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by sons, Ronald and wife Sharri of Bloomington, Dennis and wife Jean of Eagan and Gary of Eagan; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother Donald and wife Sophie Wendt of Laguna Hills, Calif. She was preceded in death by husband Charles, in 1997; sister, Alma Gatzke. She was born Jan. 18, 1913 in Burnstown Township, Brown County to Dietrich T. and Marie (Meinert) Wendt. She grew up on the family farm and attended country schools. She married Charles Newman on Sept. 12, 1935, in Springfield. They lived in Springfield. After Charles died in 1997, she moved to St. John's Lutheran Home. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. Getrude "Gertie" Ruth Kirschstein, 86, died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield United Methodist Church, with burial in the city cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield and one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by her daughters, Fern and husband Walter Meine of Springfield, Rose and husband Ken "Bucky" Lee of Springfield; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Panitzke of Sanborn; sister-in-law Dorothy Sorensen of Sleepy eye; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Alfred; sisters, Winifred Dobberstein, Mary Dietz and Gladys Kirchstein; brothers, Olaf and Harvey. She was born June 26, 1912 in West Point, Neb. to Peter M. and Alva (Rosenkrenz) Sorensen. She grew up in Evan. She married Alfred Kirschstein on Oct.r 20, 1931 in Springfield. They farmed near Cobden until 1938, when they moved to Springfield. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield. Armin Robinson, 79, died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at Springfield Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield.
