Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a COF and KC rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish service at 6:30 p.m., both Friday at the funeral home. Mike was born on April 6, 1923, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Harold and Katherine (Huiras) Berkner. He grew up and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. He married Pearl Guldager on May 17, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple farmed near Sleepy Eye for many years until retiring in 1983. Mike and Pearl lived at the lake near Park Rapids, in the summers, and in Mesa, Ariz., in the winters. Due to Mike's health, they had lived in Sleepy Eye full time the last two years. Mike was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. His favorite pastimes were fishing at the lake, lawn bowling in Arizona and being with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Pearl of Sleepy Eye; son Bill and wife Karen of St Michael; daughter Julie and husband Bil Hughes of Sleepy Eye; six grandchildren, Amber, Joey, Ryan, Jessica, Elizabeth, and Alex; brothers, Randy Berkner of Sleepy Eye, Richard and wife Barbra Berkner of Mankato, Dave and wife Sandy Runing of White Bear Lake, and Curt and wife Mary Runing of Cass Grande, Ariz.; and sister, Ramona Rickie of Blue Earth. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Cecelia; sister, Barbara; infant sister Rosemary; sister-in-law, Dolly Berkner and brother-in-law, Bill Rickie. Wilbur Furness, 67, of New Carlisle, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2002, morning at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Powers Funeral Home in Jamestown, Ohio, where friends and family may call Saturday from 12 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Silvercreek Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, DeAnna Konakowitz of Apple Valley, and Tammy and husband Dan Steffl of New Ulm; and five grandchildren, Heather and Shane Konakowitz, Justin, Sarah and Rachel Steffl; and a sister Evelyn Gibbons of New Carlisle, Ohio. Wilbur L. Furness was born July 9, 1934, in Dayton, Ohio, to Willis and Hannah (Mason) Furness. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a retired machinist. Owen Michael Brockhoff, 11 months, of New Auburn, died March 19, 2002, at Children's Hospital, Minneapolis. Services are 10:30 a..m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran church, New Auburn, with burial in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and continues 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. He is survived by his parents, James and Tracy Brockhoff of New Ulm, and brother Tyler. He was born April 5, 2001, in Hutchinson to James and Tracy Brockhoff.
