   Elaine Ladd, 75, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
   She is survived by son Alan and wife Cathy of Stevens Point, Wisc.; daughter Colleen and husband Richard Kokkila of Willmar; four grandchildren; sister Carrie Schenk of Sleepy Eye; and brother Victor and wife Dorothy Christensen of Sleepy Eye.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Francile; husband Raymond; and brother Jens.
   She was born Dec. 25, 1924 in Eden Township, Brown County, to Martin and Marie (Petersen) Christensen. She attended country school and Sleepy Eye Public High School. She married Raymond Ladd on Oct. 23, 1942 in Redwood Falls. They farmed in Leavenworth Township. She worked at 3M and Del Monte and was active in the 4-H. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.

   Carl Kahnke, 86, of Hector, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, St. Cloud.
   Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hector, with burial in Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Little Falls.
   Visitation is 9 a.m. until time of the service Saturday at the church.
   Raymond Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, is in charge of arrangements.
   He is survived by his wife Lillian; daughters, Rose Mary Blessing and husband Mike of Staples, Clara Zeller and husband Gerald of Clara City, Mary Karg and husband Brad of Glencoe, and Susan Baker and husband Bob of Ogema; seven grandchildren; brother Ambrose and wife Jean of Courtland; sisters, Rita Rejsck and husband Jim of Redwood Falls, and Clara Dolan and husband Jack of Minnetonka; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Modery, Florence Kodet and Bernadine Kodet; and brothers Anton and Leo.
   He was born Feb. 21, 1914 in Callaway Township, Becker County, to Ambrose and Clara (Mertens) Kahnke. He grew up in the White Earth area, where he attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II under General Bradley in the American Theater and the European African Middle East Theater. He married Lillian Margaret Stancer on Sept. 16, 1941 in Redwood Falls. they lived and farmed at Ogema, then later moved to Hector. He managed the American Legion in Hector. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, and the Fairfax V.F.W.

   Dean Thorson, 67, of Cambria, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at home.
   Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Cambria Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Cambria Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cambria American Legion and New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
   Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

   David Towers, 49, of Shakopee, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at home.
   Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Shakopee. with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Cavanaugh-McNearney Funeral Home, Shakopee, with prayer service at 7 p.m.
   Memorials preferred to the donor's choice.
   He is survived by his wife Michelle; son Travis; mother Alice Melk of Wisconsin; brother Gilbert and wife Bonnie of Menomonee Falls, Wisc.; sisters, Grace Michalski of Colgate, Wisc., Vera Rettmann and husband Lawrence of Winthrop; sisters-in-law Karen Koehnen and husband James of Chaska, and Terrie Vos and husband Scott of Farmington; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his father; very special aunt and uncle Harold and Esther Kuehn; brother-in-law Ron Michalski; two nieces; and Arlen Kuehn.
   He was born Aug. 16, 1950 in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Gilbert and Alice (Rosenback) Towers. He married Michelle M. Grommesch on Aug. 21, 1982 in Shakopee. He served in the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserves. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, Shakopee. He worked for Eaton Corporation.

   Linus F. Salfer, 67, of Wabasso, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at his home.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso, with burial in St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso and one hour prior to services at the church. There win be a parish prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at the church. Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling the arrangements.
   He is survived by his wife Charlotte, step-children Doug Salfer and wife Karen of Dayton, Karen Liebl and husband Gary of Watertown, S.D., Phyllis McKinney of South Bend, Ind., James Salfer of Wabasso, Jean Salfer of St. Cloud, John Salfer and wife Barb of Champlain, JoAnn Jenniges and husband Kurt of Wabasso, and Michelle Marti of Northfield; 20 grandchildren, a great grandson, two sisters, Sally Swoboda and husband Don Lausen of Montevideo, and Sister Inez Marie Salfer of Washington, D.C.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Stanley, and sister, Leona Hertling.
   Linus Francis Salfer was born May 18, 1932 to Joseph and Clara (Pelzel) Salfer in New Avon Township, Redwood County. He grew up on the family farm and in Wabasso where his family moved when he was in high school. He served in the U. S. Army from November 1952 until November 1954. Linus farmed until 1979, worked for Cletus Trost building cabinets until 1982, and also worked for Garnet Zieske. He also worked as a part time mail carrier and at the Salfer Foods in Wabasso. He married Charlotte Becker on Dec. 13, 1980 at St. Anne's Catholic Church. He was a lifelong member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Victor Hirsch American Legion Post.
