Agnes Anderson, 91, of Belview, formerly of Hanska and New Ulm, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Park View Home in Belview. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with Rev. Marcia Hegna officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to service at the church. Agnes Anderson, the daughter of George and Anna (Joramo) Jorgenson, was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Hanska. She attended Hanska public school and Hanska High School. Agnes married Malte Anderson on Dec. 9, 1933, at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church parsonage. They made their home in Hanska, LaSalle, Delft, and Darfur. They returned to Hanska in 1953. Following her husband's death in 1989, Agnes remained in Hanska until moving into the Sunset Apartments in New Ulm in 1995. She moved to the Parkwood Apartments in Belview in 2000 to be near her daughter. Agnes had worked at various cafes and factories and was a seamstress in years past. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and the ELCW. Survivors include her son Melbourne Anderson and his wife Ileen of Big Lake, and Pharr, Texas; daughter Janice Blomeke and her husband Dennis of Belview; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Anna Bohn and her husband Hugo in Texas, and Latitia Peterson and her husband Charlie of Judson; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Oren Deterling, 68, of rural Fairfax died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements. Oren is survived by his wife Lavella Deterling of rural Fairfax; mother Norma Thiem, a resident of the Burns Manor in Hutchinson; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Ron Klement of rural Gibbon; grandchildren, Aaron Deterling and his fiancée Brandy Lord, both of Marshall, Becky Deterling of Redwood Falls, Heather Klement and Ryan Klement, both at home; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Deterling; and a brother, Glenn Deterling of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Brian Deterling on April 23, 1995; and a brother, Kenneth Deterling. He was born on Sept. 26, 1934, in Wellington Township, Renville County, to Luvern and Norma (Sell) Deterling. He married Lavella Kuester on May 22, 1957, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township. After marriage they farmed the family farm in Wellington Township and retired in 1994. He enjoyed making firewood and gardening after he retired. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County. Ruth H. Hornbrook, 84, of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at The Woodlands, Texas. Services will be later in May at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Adella Larsen, 87, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, April 7, 2003 at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Services are pending at Nelson-Martin Funeral Services, Redwood Falls. Leo W. Mead, 53, of Lamberton, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, at the United Methodist Church, Lamberton with burial in Lamberton Cemetery. Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Sturm Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born April 7, 1949, in New Ulm to Leo and Margaret (Evans) Mead. Beatrice M. Schottenbauer<, 87, of Fairfax, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home. Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, and 7:30-10 a.m., Wednesday, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. A rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and parish service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. She is survived by her children, Barbara Riebel of Bloomington; James of Morristown, Leo of Sleepy Eye, David of Flat River, Mo., Dianne Kienlen of Fairfax, Thomas of Newton, Kansas and Greg of Sleepy Eye; 40 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister Fanchon Bertrand of Sleepy Eye; and brother William Barnes of Novato, Calif. She was born May 24, 1915, in Sleepy Eye to James and Mathilda (Fehmer) Barnes. Oren R. Shelley, 91 of Roseville passed away on April 4, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; father, Ole and mother, Bertha. He is survived by his son Erland and his wife Sally; daughters, Martha, Kristi, and Linda; grandchildren, Mark and his wife Glee, Erick and Anthony; great grandchildren, Garrett and Kayla; sister, Thelma Asleson; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Oren was born in Hanska, MN on November 27, 1911. He was a lieutenant in the USN during WWII, graduated from the U of MN, School of Agriculture with a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics, Summa Cum Laude. He was the president of the St. Paul Bank for Cooperatives until his retirement. After retirement he continued to work in many developing countries in the field of agricultural economics with the US Govt. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 263, Shriner's Osman Temple, Sons of Norway, Norske Torske Klubben, VFW, American Legion, and Kiwanis. Oren traveled abroad extensively with his wife Evelyn. He enjoyed fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He stayed connected to his Norwegian heritage in Hanska, MN. Funeral Service 1 p.m. Thursday April 10, 2003 at The Roseville Memorial Chapel, 2245 N. Hamline Ave. 651-631-2727. William Wetmore, 66, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, April, 5, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Arrangements are pending with the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls.
