Services are 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is noon until time of service Friday at the church. Arrangements are handled by Hughes Funeral Home. She is survived by children, David Brecht of Minneapolis, and Virge Ann Peterson and her husband Virgil of Hector; grandchildren, Scott Peterson and his wife Mary of Sauk Centre and their children Randy, Amanda, and Kelly; and Brad Peterson of Hector; sister, Erna Neuhaus of Stewart; and by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Betty Jane; brothers: Frank, Art, Frebert, Louis, Otto Jr., Herbert, and Edward, and sister, Lydia. She was born June 27, 1913, in Stewart, to Otto mid Amelia Wangerin. She attended rural school. On Dec. 13, 1931, she married Harold Brecht at the St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage in Stewart. The couple lived and farmed in the Stewart area. After her husband's death in 1962, she moved into Stewart. She became a resident of Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in January 1992. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart where she was active in Ladies Aid, and was a Sunday School teacher. Alvaretta 'Polly' McCleary, 84, of Jeffers, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Sogge Good Samaritan Community in Windom. Services are 2 p.m. today at Jeffers United Methodist Church, with burial in the Jeffers Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. today at the Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home in Jeffers, and 12:30-2 p.m. today at the church. Mary M. Regner, 93, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at the Good Samaritan center in Arlington. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gaylord with burial in the Gaylord Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday followed by a rosary at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-laws, Doris and Daryl Moses of Gaylord, Theresa and Charles Holm of Elmer City, Wash.. Hildegard Aitken of Moodus, Conn., Mary Ann and Kenneth Siems of Minneapolis and Catherine and John Lauruhn of Wasilla, Alaska; sons and daughter-in-laws, Edward Regner of New Ulm, Joseph and Sylvia Regner of Austin, Texas, Alois and Alice Regner of Winthrop and Michael and Elaine Regner of Winthrop; sisters, Anne Altermatt of Wabasso and Amelia Gores of Federal Ways, Wash; 35 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her spouse in 1997; brothers, Joe Kahs and Anton Kahs. She was born Oct. 30, 1907, in Wabasso, to Anton and Catherine (Guetter) Kahs. She married Joseph Regner on Sept. 16, 1930, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso. They famed in the St. George and Lafayette areas until 1942 when they purchased a farm in Alfsborg Township, rural Gaylord. She was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gaylord and the CCW. Selma Palmer, 89 of Winthrop, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Arlington Municipal Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bernadotte Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements. She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Winthrop; daughter and son-in-law, Adrianne and Lowell Sjostrom of Winthrop; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters and bothers-in-law, Erna Trebelhorn of Northfield and Ruth and Henry Trebelhorn of Richfield; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Anna Bauer of Brownton; sisters-in-law, Lily Franke of Gaylord, Hilda Bauer of Stewart, Luella Bauer of Gaylord; brother-in-law and wife, Donald and Helen Palmer of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Agnes Wetterlin; and brothers, Arnold and Leonard Bauer. She was born Sept. 29, 1911, to William and Mary (Brede) Bauer in Transit Township, Sibley County. She attended parochial school in Mountville and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1929. She attended teaching training in Mankato. She taught at Zarnott School District 49 for six years. She married Dennis Palmer on Nov. 24, 1935, in Mountville. They lived in Winthrop and Gaylord. In 1937, they moved to the Bernadotte Store, which they operated for six years. In 1944, they bought the Hed/Palmer farm in Alfsborg Township. They farmed until 1982, when they retired and moved into Winthrop. She was a member of Bernadotte Lutheran Church, where she was a past Sunday School teacher and a member of the ELCW. She was a former 4-H Leader for the Be Square Club. Jessica Mosel, 19, of rural Norseland, died April 17, 2001, at St. Peter Community Hospital. Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with burial in Scandian Grove Lutheran Cemetery in Norseland. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland and one hour prior to services at First Lutheran in St. Peter on Saturday. Arrangements were handled by St. Peter Funeral Service. She is survived by her parents: Jeff and Tammy of rural Norseland; sister, Ashley at home; paternal grandparents, Paul and Marilyn Mosel of Lewisville; maternal grandmother, Kathleen Fjermestad of St. Peter; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jessica as born in Hazen, N.D., on March 18, 1982, to Jeffrey and Tammy (Fjermestad) Mosel. Jessica and her parents moved back to Minnesota in 1983. She attended St. Peter Elementary and Junior High School until 8th grade. She was a senior at the Minnesota New Country School in Henderson. She was active in 4-H. Veronica 'Fronie' Portner, 91, of 510 14th North in New Ulm, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Jerry Denn of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Delmar and Mary Ann Portner, Charles, Jr. and Audrey Portner all of New Ulm; 12 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; sister, Louise Tastel of New Ulm; brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Viola Seidl of Sleepy Eye; and a sister-in-law, Leona Seidl of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Portner, Sr. on Aug. 31, 1997; sisters, Minnie Schroepfer, Laura Schroepfer, Clara Portner, and Evelyn Sturm; and brother, Leonard Seidl. She was born on Dec. 1, 1909, in Stark Township, Brown County to William and Catherine (Haala) Seidl. She married Charles Portner, Sr. on Oct. 17, 1933, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County until 1965 when they moved into New Ulm. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a 50-year member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council. Melvin Stiehm, 78, of Lodi, Calif., formerly of the New Ulm area, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Lodi. Arrangements are pending with the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. Esther Christman, 90, of St. James, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James; and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Joanne Christman of St. James; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter; brothers, Winford Zettler, Gustof Zettler, Frederick Zettler, Carl Zettler, and Otto Zettler; and sisters, Amelia Evers, Alma Leffler, Regina Elsing, and Salma Elsing. She was born on June 10, 1910, to Theodore and Antonia (Mueller) Zettler in Comfrey. She married Melvin Christman on July 28, 1931, in Comfrey. He died Jan.1, 1972. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid at First Lutheran church, St. James. Floyd Gregg, 93, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Services are 1 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Military rites will be provided by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and one hour prior to the service at the church. He is survived by his wife, Gen of Sleepy Eye; children and their spouses, Rear Admiral Noel and Karen Dysart of Silver Springs, Md., Dennis and Ginger Dysart of San Diego, Calif., Dr. Richard and Linda Dysart of Delta, Colo., and Mary Dysart of Apple Valley; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ida Gregg and Leona Gregg, both of Sleepy Eye, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; brothers, Aaron, Gerald and Glenn, and a sister, Fern Remus. He was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Linden, Iowa, to Paul and Myrtle (England) Gregg. He graduated from Sleepy Eye High School and attended barber school in Minneapolis. He owned and operated Floyd's Barber Shop. Floyd entered the United States Army on Nov. 9, 1943, serving during World War II in central Europe until his discharge on Dec. 23, 1945. He returned to Sleepy Eye and continued to operate the barber shop until his retirement in 1980. He married Hazel Heimann on Sept. 30, 1934, in New Ulm. She preceded him in death in 1965. He married Gen Dysart on Aug. 31, 1979, in Springfield. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Sleepy Eye Golf Club and past Chamber of Commerce member. He ran the football downs markers at Sleepy Eye Public School for many years.
