Julius J. Diedrick, 93, of New Ulm and formerly of Courtland died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center. Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, at Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland with burial in the in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues one hour before the service Friday at church. A complete obituary will appear in Thursday's edition. Harriet Fesenmaier, 90, of Sartell, formerly of New Ulm, died Dec. 22, 2002, at the Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Grams officiating. Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm is handling the arrangements. Harriet Virginia Fesenmaier, the daughter of Foster C. and Charlotte (Spangler) Fisher, was born Nov. 30,1912, in New Ulm. After graduating from New Ulm High School she married Robert (Butz) Fesenmaier, Jr., on May 10, 1932. They made their home in New Ulm for 45 years before retiring to Haines City, Fla., in 1973. Her husband was co-owner of Fesenmaier Hardware and Implement in New Ulm for many years. Harriet was an exceptional homemaker and socially active in the community. She enjoyed golf, bridge, mushroom hunting and fishing. Several years after her husband's death in 1983, she moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas and later to Sartell, Minn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and George Fisher. Survivors include sons, Michael Fesenmaier and his wife Mary of Smith, Nev., Gerald Fesenmaier and his wife Mary of St. Cloud; daughters, Barbara Molitor of Bella Vista, Ark., Anne Zahn and her husband Roger of Minnetonka Beach, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. The family requests no memorials, please. Gertrude C. Hillesheim, 80 ,of Sleepy Eye, Minn., died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Bethesda Rehab Hospital in St. Paul, Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, May 9, 2003 at 11 a.m., with Fr. Brian Oestreich officiating. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8 from 4-8 p.m., and on Friday May 9, from 7:30-10 a.m. There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Gertrude Catherine was born on May 3, 1923, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Schumacher) Fischer. She grew up on the family farm and attended District 42 Mulligan Township Country School and attended St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. Gertrude married Kenneth Hillesheim on Nov. 18, 1947, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. They resided in the Leavenworth area for several years and then moved to Sleepy Eye in 1960. Gertrude was a housewife and worked various jobs outside the home. She worked for the Pietrus Food Co. until she retired. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Christian Mothers, CCW and Divine Providence Auxiliary. Gertrude enjoyed knitting and crocheting, playing the guitar, sewing for her family and doing crossword puzzles. She collected angels and was a Medjugorje follower. She is survived by children, Barbara and Timothy Kleiter of St. Paul, Carol Hillesheim of Burnsville, Michael and Marian Hillesheim of Maple Grove, Patrick Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Marilyn and Mike Schauman of Sleepy Eye, Joanna and Jeff Schmid of Sleepy Eye, Kenwyn and Rich Evers of Olivia, Maggie and Jim Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye and Robert and Dana Hillesheim of Buffalo Lake; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; Elizabeth Fischer of Springfield, Josephine Lang of Springfield, Teresa Fischer of Minneapolis, Dorothy Fischer of Mankato, Valentine Fischer of Minneapolis, sister-in-law, Jean Fischer of Sioux Falls, S.D., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth W. Hillesheim; brothers, Alfred and John Fischer; and sister, Sr. Mryna (Margaret) Fischer. Evelyn Anna Kerkhoff, 82, of Belview, formerly of Morgan, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Park View Home in Belview. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaforth. Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls; and continues one hour before the service Thursday at the church. She is survived by daughters, Becky DeVries of Danube, Micky Grady of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Alsace Bjorndahl of Belview. Roland V. Koffron , 81, of Jackson died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, at United Methodist Church in Jackson with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Thursday, at Sathe-Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson and continues one hour before the services Friday at the church. Among the survivors are daughters, Betty and Pastor Steven Koehne of New Ulm, Mary and Howard Goltz of Windom; four grandsons; and two great-grandsons. Gerda A. Madson, 96, of Storden and formerly of Springfield, died Saturday, May 3, 2003. Services are 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, at Storden baptist Church in Storden, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at noon Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are handled by Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home in Storden and Windom. She is survived by son LaMoyne Madson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughter Betsy Grams of Burnsville; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Marvin Pederson of Storden. She was born Sept. 9, 1906, in rural Springfield to Otto and Anna (Bredvold) Pederson. Clara S. Trapp, 91, of Randall, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, in the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Randall, with burial in the Randall City Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall, and at the church Friday one hour prior to the service. She is survived by her sons, Albert C. Trapp and wife Lorna of Columbia Heights, and Conrad Trapp and wife Bette of New Ulm. Donna J. Tostenson, 59, of Burnsville, died Monday, May 5, 2003. Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 8, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Lakeville with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m., today, at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, Apple Valley Chapel, 147th and Garrett, and continues a half hour before the service at the church. She is survived by husband Darryl; sons, Kevin and Nathan; four grandchildren; sister, Janis Pasivk; brothers, Robert Asleson and Gary Asleson. She was born Aug. 28, 1943, in New Ulm, to Raymond and Florence Asleson. Florence Van Valkenburgh, 90, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of New Ulm, died May 3, 2003, in Chicago. A private graveside service will be held at the New Ulm City Cemetery with Rev. Henry Campbell officiating. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling the arrangements. Florence was born Oct. 16, 1912, in New Ulm to Caroline Linsie Hirsch Krook and Frans Hilding Krook. She was united in marriage to George Adams Van Valkenburgh of Two Harbors in 1930. They made their home in Crivitz, Wis., before moving to Northfield, Ill., where she lived for 50 years. She became a resident of the Norwood Park Home in 1994. She worked many years as a seamstress, fitter and manager before retiring as Alteration Department Manager for Saks Fifth Avenue in Skokie, Ill., in 1977. Survivors include her daughter Nancy J. Gier and her husband Edward of 443 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089; grandsons, Geoffrey Gier and his wife Tracey, George Gier and his wife Vickie, Richard Gier and his wife Donna; five great-grandchildren; Andrew, Graham, Emily, Healy and Maryann. She was preceded in death by her husband, and son, George Thrane Van Valkenburgh. Memorials are preferred to the Brown County Humane Society.
