Amelia 'Milly' Meta Billmeier, 93, of Sleepy Eye, died May 13, 2001, at home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home She is survived by children, Lorraine and husband Alfred Braulick of Sleepy Eye, Lois and husband Gildard Hillesheim of St. Peter, Donald and wife Rita of Sleepy Eye, Dorothy and husband Dale Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye, 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Alvin Kopischke of Redwood Falls, Minnie Billmeier of Richfield, Gladys Stenroden of Minneapolis, Eleanor Tigges of Minneapolis, Helen and husband Verlin Benson of Cosmos, John and wife Irene Kopischke of Wadena and Lester and wife Eileen Kopischke of Say City, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on October 31, 1987; grandchildren, Becky Schumacher and David Braulick; son-in-law, Peter Schumacher; brothers and sisters, Augusta, Carl, Herman, William, Edward, Theodore, Delores and Arthur in infancy. She was born Feb. 10, 1908, to Carl and Anne (Richter) Kopischke in Morgan. She attended country school. She married John Billmeier on Feb. 27, 1933, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements. They farmed in rural Clements, moved to rural Belview, then to rural Morgan where they farmed until moving to Sleepy Eye in February of 1958. She worked at Del Monte, Divine Providence and the Orchid Inn. Leonhard H. Heuer, 84 of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Winthrop, died Sunday, May 13, 200 1, at the Arizona Veterans Home in Phoenix. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery, with full military rites by the Winthrop Honor Guard. Visitation is 4:30 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop; and continues one hour before services at the church on Thursday. There will be a Masonic service by the Sibley Lodge No. 209 A.F. & A.M. at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral chapel. A complete obituary will appear in a future edition. Bernice Johnson, 84, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Redwood Falls Community Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls with private burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is 4 - 8 pm. today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. She is survived by her children; Pamela K. Johnson of Orange, Calif., David K. Johnson of Playa Del Rey, Calif. and Gregory K. Johnson of Burnsville; brother, Charles W. Kelley of Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Kenneth Johnson in 1995; brother, Mele; and sisters, Allegra, Lucille and Marian. She was born on Sept. 10, 1916, at Alexander, N.D., to William and Nellie (Chambers) Kelley. She grew up in Alexander and Fargo. She graduated from Alexander High School an Interstate Business College in Fargo. On June 3, 1942, she married David Johnson in Glendive, Mont. They lived in Bismark and Fargo, N.D.; Des Moines, Oskaloosa, and Davenport, Iowa; and then Alexandria, Minn., before moving to Redwood Falls in 1964. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls and served as head of the Summer Bible School in Alexandria in 1963 and in Redwood Falls in 1965. She served as the assistant children's librarian at the Redwood Falls Public Library for more than 15 years. She was also active in the Mary Church Circle, bridge clubs, Redwood Falls Golf Club social membership, Degree of Honor Society and the Alexandria League of Woman Voters. William E. Simon, 80, of Sleepy Eye died May 13, 2001, at home. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, May at New Hope Community Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in Fort Ridgely Cemetery, Fairfax with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Sleepy Eye; children and their spouses, Eugenie Rae Simon of Sleepy Eye, Scott and Myra Simon of Sleepy Eye, Tamara and Frank Merriweather of Spring Valley, NY, Derk and Genifer Simon of Sleepy Eye, Mitchell and Betty Simon of Quincy, Wash., Kallen Simon of Champlin, Martin and Ho Soon Simon of Okinawa, Japan, Keiron Simon of Rapid City, S.D., Kylie and Chad Carlson of Nevis; 19 grandchildren; brother, W. Robert and wife Dorothy Simon of Springfield; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nellie Simon. He was born Dec. 25, 1920, to Elmer and Nellie (Goodman) Simon in Springfield. He lived in North Star Township until he entered the Navy at age 22. He was discharged in December of 1945, having served on the destroyer Stockton in the Pacific. He witnessed the signing of the American-Japanese Peace treaty on the battleship Missouri. After his discharge he farmed with his father. He married Marjorie Ann Davis on Dec. 19, 1948, in Springfield. They moved to a farm north of Sleepy Eye. He belonged to several different organizations including the Saddle Club. Alvin 'Al' Behsmann, 73, of 1100 1st Avenue South in Sleepy Eye, and formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation is one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Alan Roeser of New Ulm, Betty and Norm Johnson of Waseca; sons and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sandra Behsmann of Novato, Calif., and Morgen Behsmann of Waseca; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Luella and Alvin Wobschall of Ellendale; brothers and sisters-in-law Lawrence and Marge Behsmann of Springfield, Vt., Harold and Phyllis Behsmann of Kasson, Paul Behsmann of Waseca; and by sisters-in-law, Florence Behsmann of Owatonna and Agnes Behsmann of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Geraldine Behsmann; a sister and brother-in-law Ethel and Herman Larson; brothers, Herman Behsmann and Lavern Behsmann; and a sister-in-law Eileen Behsmann. He was born on July 28, 1927, in Waseca to William "Bill" and Martha (Radtke) Behsmann. He served two hitches in the United States Army serving time in the Pacific. On March 22, 1948, he married Alice Jason at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Meriden, Minn. He farmed until the early 1960s in the Waseca area before moving into Waseca. He held various jobs in Waseca before moving to Colorado Springs, Colo. He married Geraldine Gallagher in 1974 in Colorado. He moved to Oklahoma and lived there 14 years before moving to New Ulm five years ago. He moved to Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye in January. He had been a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center for the past week. Lyle Bishop, 78, of Hector, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Services are 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Hector, with burial in the Hector City Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service today at the church. Hughes Funeral Home in Hector handled arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Boots Bishop of the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center; children, Douglas Bishop and wife Denise of Atwater, Deborah Christensen and husband Neil of rural Hector; five grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Lietzau of Cosmos, and Dorothy Taylor of Spicer; and by many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur, Gene, Harry, Lowell, Cecil, and Gerald; and sisters, Alice Mae Clark and Mary Ann Paradee. He was born Aug. 23, 1922, at Curlew, Palo Alto County, Iowa, to Emmett Leroy and Minerva (Allen) Bishop. He moved with his family in 1923 to Martinsburg Township, Renville County, where he attended rural school. He married Beulah (Boots) lone Smith at the Methodist parsonage in Morgan. They moved to New Mexico where he worked on the Santa Fe railroad until called to military duty in the United States Army. In 1945 they made their home in Hector. He worked for Union Co-op Oil as a bulk truck driver and station manager. In 1971 he joined Hogenson Construction Company to build grain elevators. He later worked for Conger Construction Company building elevators in Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Montana, and California. In 1989 he started working at the Cenex Agronomy Center.
