   Sylvia 'Syl' Hopkins, 83 , of New Ulm died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
    Sylvia is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gerald Marti of New Ulm, Marcia and Scott Horner of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Janette Lanehart and her husband, Michael of Gibbon, Nancy Marti and her fiancé, Daniel Diefenderfer both of Nicollet, Michael Marti and his wife, Jessica of New Ulm, Melissa Salaam and her husband, Hakim, Jennifer Hoffhein and her husband, William, and Bria Horner all of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Marti, Hannah Hoffhein, and Jaida Salaam; and her sisters, Dolores Schaefer of New Ulm and Lois Lynch of Belle Plaine. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gail W. Hopkins on May 12, 1963; a sister, Evelyn Domeier in infancy; and a great granddaughter, Taylor Salaam in infancy.
   Sylvia Veronica Domeier was born on March 1, 1921 in New Ulm to Peter J. and Barbara R. (Willinger) Domeier. On November 2, 1944 she married Gail W. Hopkins in Washington, D.C. She had worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. from 1941 - 1945 and then worked as co-manager with her husband at the G.F. Wacker Variety Store in Coalgate, Oklahoma from 1945 - 1951. Later she worked as Assistant City Assessor in New Ulm and also had worked at the New Ulm Telephone Company. From 1971 - 2002 she was the owner and operator of the New Ulm Corny Wagon in New Ulm and was well known as the "Popcorn Lady." She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.

   Sidney V. Johnson, 78, of Springfield, died on Thursday, May 27, 2004 in Springfield.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield, with burial in Cambridge, Wis.
   Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield and 10-11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church.
   He is survived by his wife Carol Johnson of Springfield, daughter Sharon Johnson of Eagan, sons, Chuck of Sherburn, David of Anchorage, Alaska, and Rich of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren; and sister, Nadine Empie of Lakeland, Fla.
   He was born on Nov. 10, 1925, in Rockdale, Wis., to Sidney and Mildred (Venaas) Johnson. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served three years in the South Pacific as a crew member of a B-24.

   Geraldine Verdeck, 59, of Hutchinson, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
   Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 8-9 a.m. Wednesday at the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson and one hour prior to services at the church.
   Geraldine was survived by her husband, Duane Verdeck of Hutchinson; children, Ryan Verdeck of Glencoe and Kari Verdeck of Clear Lake; and one grandchild.
