   Leona Baird, 89 ,of Roseville, formerly of the Sleepy Eye area, died on Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Eagle Crest Assisted Living Center in Roseville.
   Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, with Pastor Ron Freimark officiating. Interment will be at the Prairieville Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
   Leona was born on Aug. 21, 1913, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Simonsen) Christensen. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1931. She then went on for a year of training in Sleepy Eye for normal school. Leona taught at Eden Township Country School for several years. She then moved to Minneapolis with her sister Hazel and went to work at Merrill Lynch for 40 years. In the 1950s, she was transferred to Chicago, where she married Jack Baird in 1960. Leona and sister Hazel moved back to Roseville, Minn., upon her retirement from Merrill Lynch. Leona remained in Roseville until her death.
   Survivors include, eight nieces and nephews, Dean Christensen of New Brighton, Dennis Christensen of Little Falls, Barbra Eden of California, William (Bill) Ericksen of Burnsville, Kathy Schultz of Mankato, Cindy Ericksen of Lake City, Jack Brady of Baltimore, Md., and Michael Brady of Jay, Vt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Martha (Simonsen) Christensen; husband Jack Baird; brother, Reynold (Chris) Christensen, sisters, Syliva Ericksen, Loraine Brady and Hazel Christensen; and niece, Patti Jones.

   Karl A. Fritsch, 89, of Nicollet, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.
   Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Nicollet. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Tuesday.
   Karl is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Lueck of Waterville, Joanne and Myron Bode of Nicollet, Janet "Jenny" and Jim Otto of Nicollet, Shirley and Gary Bruns of New Ulm, and Sharon ZumBerge of New Ulm; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elda on April 14, 1994; two sisters; and three brothers.
   Karl was born May 26, 1914, in Kelso Township, Sibley County, to George and Anna (Erdman) Fritsch. He married Elda Schroeder on April 6, 1935, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. After marriage they farmed in the Gaylord and Arlington area for 20 years. They moved to Nicollet in 1954, where they owned and operated Karl's Bar until 1968. They moved to Rhinelander, Wis., for two years and the back to Nicollet in 1971. Karl was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auctions, antiques and dancing.

   Norman Jannicke, 79, of rural Gibbon died Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
   Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
   Norman is survived by his wife Melicent Jannicke of rural Gibbon; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Galen Wills of Arlington; a grandson, Jonathan Wills; sister Elsie Gray of McIntosh; and a sister-in-law, Irma Jannicke of Anoka. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Isabelle Ruschmeyer, Christine Albrecht, Erna Fenske, and Esther Krueger; and brothers, Herbert, Alvin, Alfred, Walter and Herman Jannicke.
   Norman was born on Nov. 4, 1923, in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Theodore and Mathilda (Stenzel) Jannicke. He served in the 25th Army Division from Feb. 23, 1943, to Jan. 6, 1946, in the Philippines. He married Melicent Grewe on July 15, 1948, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. After marriage they farmed in Moltke Township, Sibley County, until 1967. He then was employed in the Fertilizer Division of the Gibbon Farmer's Elevator until he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 226 in Gibbon, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.

   Dolores M. Ludewig, 74, of 825 9th Ave. S., St. Cloud, died Thursday, May 29, at the St. Cloud Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
   Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Burial will be at New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
   Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and two hours prior to the services Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
   Dolores was born Dec. 24, 1928 in New Ulm to John & Josephine (Pany) Groebner. She lived in New Ulm most of her life and spent the last ten years in St. Cloud, to be closer to her family. Her greatest joy in recent years was her great-grandson, Nathan. Dolores loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the German-Bohemian Heritage Society and was proud of her Austrian heritage. She loved cooking, baking, music and dancing.
   Dolores is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shari & Robert Movold of St. Cloud, Lynn & Bruce Winch of St. Cloud; brother, Norman Groebner of New Ulm; grandchildren, Angie (Chris) Levandowski and Michelle (Dave) Emery; great grandchildren, Nathan Emery and Robert, Andrew, and Ryan Levandowski.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Cecilia Zupfer and Lillian Prysok; and brothers, Charles and Hubert Groebner.

   Arnold Witte, 84, of Hutchinson, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at his home in Hutchinson.
   Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. Military honors by the
   Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
