Mass of Christain burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Garland of Springfield; and a brother, Louis Frechette of Tracy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Symmonds; a sister, Irene Barnes; and her brother Andre Frechette. She was born May 17, 1915, in Irwin, Ill. to Ephrem and Marie (Vigneault) Frechette. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1933. She then trained to be a nurse at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Having contracted tuberculosis while a student, she was forced to give up her training. Following treatment, she worked as a photographer's assistant in a portrait studio in New Ulm. She returned to Minneapolis, this time to learn and develop her skills as a portrait colorist and retouch artist. Her work won her recognition of her industry peers and several awards from Professional Photographers of America. She married Harold Symmonds and returned with him to Astoria, Ore. in 1971. There, she became an active member and Eucharistic Minister at the St. Mary's by the Sea parish. She spent time raising and breeding registered Dachshunds. Upon the death of her husband Harold, she moved to Lebanon, Ore. and then later to Albany, Ore. Jan had lived for the past four years at Villa Cascade Care Center in Lebanon, Oregon and the Mennonite Home in Albany, Ore. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany, Oregon and also a Catholic Daughter at the church. Donna Leikam, 72, of Searles died Saturday, June 5, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with burial in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery rural Searles. Visitation will be 4 - 9 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A complete obituary will appear in Monday's edition of The Journal. Grace Jorgensen, 82, of Gaylord died Friday, June 4, 1999, at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Gaylord. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements pending with Egesdal Funeral Home. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition. Robert Rickert, 101, of Winthrop, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Penn Township, rural Brownton, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Dalin Hantge Chapel in Winthrop and one hour prior to services at the church.
