Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Colonial Church of Edina with burial in the Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. He was born March 12, 1999. He is survived by his parents Kimberly and Scott; brother Ryan; grandparents, Esther and Don Current of Winthrop, Sandra and Frank Walentine of St. Louis Park; great-grandmother, Florence Zorn; and other relatives. Memorials are preferred to the SIDS Foundation. William E. (Bill) Macklin, III , 81 of Riverside Villa in Pine River, formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Union Congregational Church in Hackensack Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Thomas-Dennis Funeral Chapel in Walker. He is survived by his wife,Judy; children, William Macklin IV and wife Paige of Lakeville, Susan Paulson and husband Gary of Little Falls, and Thomas Macklin and wife Darlene of Worthington; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Elaine (Becky). He was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Coon Rapids, Iowa to William and Ada (Pingrey) Macklin. He grew up in Iowa, Minneapolis and Litchfield. He graduated from the University of Missouri in journalism. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a former Associated Press correspondent in London and later in St. Louis and Kansas City. He married Elaine Beckstrom in 1945. They moved to New Ulm in 1951, where he served as editor of The New Ulm Daily Journal (later The Journal) for 28 years. They retired in 1980 to Ten Mile Lake near Hackensack. He wrote a weekly column published in The Journal, the Walker Pilot-Independent, the Pine River Journal, the Longville Pine Cone Press and the Country Echo of Pequot Lakes. He was a member of the Union Congregational Church, the Ten Mile Lake Association, the American Legion Post and the Isaak Walton League. He and Becky also traveled until her death in 1987. On July 9, 1989 he married Judy Vass. They traveled together in the U.S., Mexico, Europe and the Caribbean. They went to China in 1993, where his grandfather, a medical missionary, had established a 25-bed hospital in Nanjing in 1893. He and his sisters were guests at the centennial celebration and he received a standing ovation as a speaker at the main event. In 1994 they moved to Riverside Villa in Pine River after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He then moved to the Masonic Hospital in Bloomington and in 1998 to Whispering Pines Care Center in Pine River. Evelyn Stancer, 83, of Redwood Falls died Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at her son's home in Redwood Falls. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the Morton City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of service at the church. The Sunset Funeral Home of Echo is handling the arrangements. She is survived by her son Jeff Stancer and his wife Betty of Redwood Falls, three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; sister Martha Ammermann of Windom, brother-in-law Lao Stancer and wife Elizabeth of Redwood Falls, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Klause and husband Wally of Hector, Audrey Stancer of Redwood Falls, and Arlene Johnson of Windom. She was preceded in death by her husband Garol; brothers, Oscar, Martin, and Stanley; sisters, Grace Christopher, Olga Tostensen, Ann Martin, and Alyce Johnson. She was born Thursday, March 9, 1916 in Odin to John 0. and Olivia (Paulson) Johnson. She grew up in Odin and attended Edison High School. On April 12, 1936 she married Garold Stancer in the Zion Lutheran Church in Odin. They lived in Redwood Falls until moving to Ogden, Utah during World War II. They returned to Redwood Falls in 1946. Garold died on Oct. 7, 1997. She was an active member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, where she served on the funeral committee for more than 30 years, belonged to the quilters group and WELCA. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the County Council, and the Hospital Auxiliary, and she held many offices in all of these organizations. Eda Epper, 87, formerly of Nicollet, died Thursday, June 9, 1999 at St. Peter Community Hospital in St. Peter. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County. Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. today and 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet. There will be a rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Neil Warmack of Coon Rapids, Betty and Edward Prom of rural Madison Lake; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and Dianne Epper, and William Epper, Sr. all of Nicollet; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Zins, of Grandview Health Care Center in St. Peter. She was preceded in death by husband, Anthony Epper; brothers, Claudius, Edmond, Theodore, Leonard, Jr. and Eugene Giefer; sisters, Margaret Giefer and Aurelia Lawson; and granddaughter, Ann Marie Epper. She was born on April 6, 1912 at Swan Lake to Leonard Anton and Lucy (Karpan) Giefer. She graduated from the Nicollet High School. She married Anthony Epper on June 19, 1933 at Church of the Visitation at Swan Lake. They lived in Nicollet and owned and operated the Nicollet Oil Company. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Aid Society,and St. Anne's Society (C.C.W.). The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
